With the news of former first lady Barbara Bush’s passing on Tuesday, lawmakers and officials from around the world shared fond words about the family’s matriarch.
Bush, described as “a relentless proponent of family literacy,” died at the age of 92, a spokesman for the family confirmed.
Read on to see what others had to say about the former first lady:

President Trump tweeted he and first lady Melania Trump “join the Nation in celebrating the life of Barbara Bush.” He went on to describe her as “an advocate of the American family” and said she would “be remembered for her strong devotion to country and family, both of which she served unfailingly well.”

Former President Bill Clinton called Bush “a remarkable woman” who “showed us what an honest, vibrant, full life looks like.”

Senate candidate and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney said Bush was “the great First Lady of our times” and he and his wife “will profoundly miss her friendship, her compassion, & the twinkle of her eye.”

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright tweeted that Bush “was a woman of incredibly determination, wit, and compassion who embodied America’s best values.”

Canadian President Justin Trudeau tweeted that Bush leaves behind “a legacy of dignity, grace, service and devotion to family.”

Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan offered his condolences to the Bush family and said “May she rest in eternal peace.

She also Loved her family. Poor President Bush looks so lost and alone now. Say what you will about their politics, but she was the light of his life and he was the light of hers.

With all of his illnesses I guarantee she was the reason he kept fighting to live on. I sure hope he doesn't give up now.

I think all Americans regardless of political persuasion recognize the good work Barbara Bush has done both for children and adults in regard to literacy.
She was a gracious First Lady and also the mother of a President.

Unfortunately there are those on the far left that have no dignity or respect for anything at all.

Most hold the tradition that even if you disagree with someone in Life, You hold your criticism of those in death.

But a creative writing professor at California State University at Fresno had a blunt message for those offering up fond remembrances:

“Barbara Bush was a generous and smart and amazing racist who, along with her husband, raised a war criminal,” Randa Jarrar wrote Tuesday night on Twitter, according to the Fresno Bee.

In another tweet, the professor wrote: “I’m happy the witch is dead. can’t wait for the rest of her family to fall to their demise the way 1.5 million iraqis have. byyyeeeeeee.”

This is sickening and despicable and hope this unveils the true nature of the liberal left and that nothing in American life is sacred!

Rest In Peace Mrs. Bush and may your family find peace and love in the years to come.

Whatever one's status or lack there of, they usually leave behind those who loved them. And whatever the politics, I agree it is tacky to speak ill of the recently deceased. I can only imagine the nasty things out there, or nasty things that would be said if this were someone like Mrs. Obama.

I was no fan of Mrs. Bush at all, but I respect the recently deceased if for no other reason but compassion for those they left behind. Shame on those who use funerals to deride someone. It is a time people try to (and should) focus on the positives of a person's life.

Once again you lump all Republinans into one bunch. I am no fan of the Obama's at all but I would be heartbroken if she died. We are talking about the leaders of the greatest country of the world that gave the majority of their lives to it.

I have never cheered when a member of either party has passed away, all thought I did say with Ted Kennedy Karma finally got him for murder.

One thing I hadn't realized until her passing was that she had lost a child years ago to leukemia, a disease that is now treatable, but back then it was a "death sentence" when diagonosed.

She reminded me so much of my mother's mom in both character and personality, and they were both from the same generation. Like my grandmother, Mrs. Bush was the rock of their household.

She's left quite a mark in history and she will be missed.

Awesome photo from the funeral. All the former living U.S. Presidents (3) and their wives, along with Melania Trump. The Carters were there too but they are not in this pic. That pic would have been epic.

The article showed the Carter pictures separately. Misleading.

You're right.

"The only other living former president who did not attend the service was Jimmy Carter. A spokesman for the 93-year-old former president said Carter was on a trip abroad, while his wife, Rosalynn, was recovering from recent surgery."

Yeah, Carter has no respect for the office he once held.
