Wouldn't it be interesting to see what a username like "Not Interested" would bring you?
Reversed psychology... when you say "I do NOT want XYZ" everyone who is all about XYZ will check out your profile and respond to you. Then that has to work with "Not Interested" too? Not that I'm interested. Oh dear... now I've done it. But really, I am NOT interested!! |

Iām positive it would work. I changed my mind about dating just yet and when I changed my profile to seeking friendship, my emails doubled instead of halving. Is halving a word? Haha!

I think it is the nature of Keywords.
People only see the word "Interested". The word attracted my attention to this thread. I clicked when 'Not' focused. I wanted to see what you were 'not' "interested" in. "Interested" grabbed my attention, 'Not' caused me to click, out of curiosity. Its a known fact that when we are searching we don't search full sentences, we concentrate on keywords. It speeds the process. At a site primarily focused on finding people of the opposite sex that are interested in you, the word becomes a magnet. |

One time several years ago I posted a profile on a dating site. The very first sentence was this. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A MAN THAT WILL TREAT YOU LIKE SHYT, IM YOUR GUY. I made myself sound like the biggest A-hole you ever heard of. I even posted that I had a 10-inch penis and that I worked in the porn industry. I even went out on the net and found a picture of an older,
handsome Chinese man that was in pretty good shape body wise. The picture that I posted, he had all his clothes on. Just really nice looking. Then, I just sat back and waited. The next thing I knew I was getting all sorts of messages from women. I was flabbergasted. At first, I couldn't believe it. Most all of them focused on two things. Being treated like shyt. And the ten-inch penis. The username was Wan Hung Lo. It was a joke. I figured people would see right through it. It would get reported and deleted. But, it didn't. It stayed up for three days. Until I took it down. Within three days it had somewhere around 70 messages that I never answered. I did read them. I got a laugh out of some. Others would make a sailor blush. |

Iām positive it would work. I changed my mind about dating just yet and when I changed my profile to seeking friendship, my emails doubled instead of halving. Is halving a word? Haha! I rest my case! This is also why it works against you when your profile says stuff like "IF you are... DO NOT CONTACT ME" "If you do... DO NOT CONTACT ME" "I DO NOT WANT xyz" Then you get all the a-holes who are exactly what you are aiming to repel I put that theory to the test when I read about it a few years back, and it does indeed work that way. |

Haha, that's why I used that as a title for the thread, wondering if that itself would pique ppl's interest. And here we go :) Everyone is replying, haha. They say to use this strategy in marketing as well. Go for the jugular, the "sore spot" so to speak. Like if you want to flog a product to lose weight, you shouldn't say "Want to lose weight? This will help!" but more like "Can't get into your swimsuit? Try this!" |
