yes. belief in the utopic idea that just 'working hard' equates to having 'merit' which leads to 'success'

is pathetic and damaging in many ways...

Depends how you look at success!
For some it could be as simple as having a nice little house /apartment, job and a family. For others it could be the head or owner of a large corporate company.

yes, success is all subjective.

working hard is beneficial in many ways, mental and physical... Just because you work hard doesn't mean you will get rich, it means you did your best to succeed, but you won't get rich without working hard...

working hard IS beneficial in many ways
because you work hard DOESNT mean you will get rich

however, people do get rich without 'working hard'

people get rich when they know how to 'work smart' instead of hard

people get rich through inheritance, through having the right networks to provide them opportunity for wealth, and through having the right networks and knowledge to build 'wealth' instead of just 'earn a living'

inheritance and winning a lottery is about the only ways to get rich without working hard, most all others had to do some work to get theirs

I agree, its a very subjective topic though

doing 'some work' and 'working hard' are different standards in my mind.

I agree with you, but I can't agree with that dumb professor... Telling kids to not work hard is undermining everything our country has stood for

hard work is racist, says professor

I don't see where you got that from what's in the OP.

Based on what little there is in the OP, all she appears to be saying is "cultural norms tend to be self reinforcing and self perpetuating. Reinforcing the ideas and beliefs of the predominate group, which creates a system to protect the culture and norms, and is then used to perpetuate and reinforce them."

IMO little different than an article saying "the existence of roads and ubiquitous gas stations perpetuate vehicle and driving ideology. The professor designed a seminar on driving privilege then interviewed 12 attendees on their belief in looking before you cross and not jaywalking and preferring driving to walking. Driveness ideologies."

At best you can say the professor is a progressive, possibly wanting constant change.

At worst she's attempting to justify her continued employment by trying to prove her area of expertise (which are her beliefs) are valuable and worth teaching.

Otherwise it's just an article meant to manipulate outrage.
Click bait at best.

I agree, its a very subjective topic though

I agree with you, but I can't agree with that dumb professor... Telling kids to not work hard is undermining everything our country has stood for

I don't believe that she told them to not work hard.
