Americans love firsts. But which first should be first:

The first woman nominated by a major party to be president?

Or the first African-American?

For Victoria Dixon, race trumped gender in her decision to support Obama. Dixon works at a local television station and is a volunteer in the Obama campaign. (But Victoria, what about the issues?)

More voters would entertain the prospect of a woman as president than an African-American. (but what about the issues?)

Shelia Johnson thinks she has a long history with the Clintons. She read their books! "There are several things I love and respect about Hillary Clinton and what she represents for women across the world," said Johnson.
(The issues??)

After her book club read Obama's autobiography "Dreams From My Father. (OMG, we are doomed!!)

"Either way it goes," Johnson said, "it's historical and it's amazing. My granddaughter is going to be reading about this as she grows up because it's going to be in the history books."
(Perhaps with a footnote: "The fall of America")

Havent voters learned their lesson, or are we condemned to another downword spiral brought about by uninformed voters?

Please study the issues. Dont vote on gender or race. Dont rely on luck or chance to get it right this time.

I usually support people voting, but If you arent willing to study the issues, then stay at home and allow informed voters to save this country! This type of voting is not good!

I don't know why Obama is constantly referred to as an African-American. This is only a 1/2 truth as his mother is white as paste. So, it would be just as accurate to refer to him as a white guy.

JUST MY OPINION NOTHING MORE, BUT ARE YOU ALL AWARE THAT EVEN WHEN YOU GO TO VOTE FOR THE NEXT AMERICAN PRESIDENT, YOUR VOTES ARE NOT WHAT ELECTS PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES???

THE PRESIDENT AND VP OF THE USA, IS ELECTED BY ELECTORAL VOTES, SO IT REALLY DOESNT MATTER IF OBAMA IS ASIAN/BLACK/WHITE/PURPLE, OR IF HILLARY IS A WOMAN/MAN/TRANNY ETC...

ENTIRELY UP TO THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE TO CHOOSE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT.

The Electoral College. Each state gets a number of electors equal to the total number of senators and representatives it has. Washington D.C. gets three even though it is not a state. Each political party chooses the people it wants to serve as electors if it wins that state. On election day, although the names of the presidential candidates appear on the ballots, people are actually voting to choose electors who are pledged to vote for that candidate. In December, after the popular election, the electors meet in their repsctive state capitals and cast their ballots for president and vice president. Theoretically, except in a few states, they can actually vote for anybody they want to but of course in practice they almost always vote for whomever they were pledged to support. the person who gets the majority of the electoral votes becomes president. Read article 2 and the 12th amendment to the constitution.

i dont want hilary 2 b president because i dont think dynasties r healthy 4 democracy, after her first term is over the past two decades will have been nothin but bush and clinton, and thats no good

Actually fran the electoral college is influenced by the popular vote, whoever the people vote 4 theyre really voting for their states electoral representatives in his/her pary
HOWEVER and this is where ur right, those people can vote for whoever thay want even if they were hired by the other party, that is where its flawed: in that the middleman can b bought off

LIZARDKING19 - I DISAGREE, THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE IS NOT INFLUENCED BY THE POPULAR VOTE, IT SHOULD BE INFLUENCED BY THE POPULAR VOTE. BUT LIKE EVERYTHING IN LIFE, ONCE A HUMAN IS IN CONTROL THINGS HAPPEN grumble On 158 occasions, electors have cast their votes for president or vice president in a different manner than that prescribed by the legislature of the state they represent. Of those, 71 votes were changed because the original candidate died before the elector was able to cast a vote. Two votes were not cast at all when electors chose to abstain from casting their electoral vote for any candidate. The remaining 85 were changed by the elector's personal interest or perhaps by accident. Usually, the faithless electors act alone.

IN A PERFECT WORLD IT SHOULD, BY NO MEANS AM I PROMOTING ANYTHING JUST EXPRESSING MY OPINION AND FACTUAL RESEARCH. I TOO WILL BE OUT ON THOSE LINES VOTING FOR OUR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE AND WILL HAVE MY FINGERS CROSSED THAT THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE MEMBERS HOLD UP THEIR END OF THEIR BARGAIN/ THE PLEDGES THEY UNDERTOOK WHEN BEING APPOINTED TO THIS POSITION.

The State of Nebraska is the only state in the union that the electoral college is required by law to vote as the people do....all others can vote for whomever they want, regardless.....You must remember that the USA is not a democracy....it is a federal republic...

Sorry to disagree dnn122

* The exceptions are Maine and Nebraska, where a proportional method for allocating votes is used.

Interesting things to ponder, franshade. If you want some good reading on politics and elections, go to this website:

http://www.centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/

It's run by Larry Sabato, a politial science professor at the U of Virginia. Excellent analysis on elections and the political process.

this appears to be a prejudice against republicans

not all of them are bad

just like not all democrats are bad neither

to say no because of political party

is just as bad as saying no because of race or gender
