would "JOY-SIE" work that way you have part of both names. If its a boy Joy-sie still works. You heard the song "A Boy Named SUE" by Johnny Cash!

It is all done with tongue-in-cheek :-)
I would never expect any relatives of mine
to make such an avant-garde choice :-)

Why not just name the kid as the parents see fit, but call him /her jo-jo in your grandma's presence?

She doesnt have to know what the abbreviation is for happy

Coming from a family where my grand children are named as
Trinity Nicole and Autumn Rain I can see many variations on the J that could fit either gender.
I named my first born with two middle names. My daughter (last born) also has two middle names. One of my grandsons has three middle names.

My first born son had a first name unique and two middle names honoring me and my father-in-law.
My daughter has a unique first name and two middle names honoring my mother in law and my sister (my mother abandoned me).

Perhaps the solution is as simple as assigning multiple middle names with a unique first name. Giving the child their own legacy while also honoring both grandparents.

My daughter just informed me yesterday that she is pregnate with another son. My newest addition to the family will have the initials T.O.M. I thought that was cute.

Now for some unique J names:

Jux
Juno
Jerup
Jace
Jatol
Jolpa
Joi
Joffe
Joffee
Jofia
Josha
Joshia
Joinya
Joynia

LOL this is fun!

So my 39 year-old nephew is having his first child
and if it is a girl he wants to follow the family
tradition and begin her name with a 'J'.

He has selected 'Josie' the dead Grandmother's name.

This rather puts out the other live Grandmother, Joye.

So, I suggested 'Joysie'.
It would sound like Jersey, with an accent.
Guaranteed not to be duplicated elsewhere in the land of 'J's.
A sure conversation starter, don't you think?

One of the Grandmothers is not talking to me now.
(I also named the last one..'Jazz'.)

What do you think?

personally would not choose the name of either Grandma [says the Dear Abbey in me]laugh

I like Jane and Jamie drinker
