So I get a call two weeks ago that my family is traveling to North Carolina to see that part of our family, but I couldn't make the trip to due to work, so, I remained here with all my friends. So today rolls around and none of my good friends invited me to have a home cooked meal with their family, granted, i did ask, but to me that would be imposing, i think one must be invited to an occasion of this nature, but, the messed up thing is, all my friends knew that my Thanksgiving was going to involve me sitting by myself all day, and my Thanksgiving dinner? Good ole' sloppy joes, straight off the stove. This day was bad enough because i can't see my niece in person and wish her a happy 5th birthday, and then i started thinking about how my friends just left me, i don't mean to sound like a whiney *****, but i would just like to know what other people think on this matter.

True, your friends may have known that you weren't gonna be with your family, but unless you made then aware that you'd like an invite to their place, you can't blame them for not inviting you.

Suck it up and press on. You're not the only one alone today...and the only one feeling sorry for you is you.

Don't sweat it. You have family. You have a job. You aren't alone on days that aren't designated as family holidays.

My perspective is coming from being a bit older, but I have my children every other week. I don't have them this week. My extended family used to be large, but they have moved off or died.

I sat down and worked on a short story. I talke dto my kids on the phone. I played with fire. I had a beer or two. Exercise, coffee, Rockford Files, crossword, posting here. Don't dwell on the sad stuff on a day of Thankfulness. I don't. Not sure if I could.

I can relate.

My son's grandparents took him (ex's side of the family)... and me and my daughter were home all alone. My own parents didn't invite us to dinner... and my dad lives in the same apartment building as me! (apparently there wasn't enough for us to have any)...so we ate Chicken Nuggets and Tater Tots, watched Barbie Mermaidia... and now that they are all done eating, they took my daughter so they could play games with her. I was so disgusted I decided to stay home... so now I'm by myself.

Such is the way of holidays for now. Can't wait til days like this are happy again... sigh.

My dinner was a frozen vegetarian pizza... and my family was right next door the whole time and noone even bothered to ask if there was anything wrong as to why I didn't make an appearance. This is my first thanksgiving EVER without my grandmother. I'm 23 years old, and the first 22 holiday seasons of my life my Granny was there with a wonderful warm smile. Today, no smile. Just didn't feel right not having here there so I've locked myself in my room and cried all day. It would be nice to have a reason to enjoy the day, but most of who was there was my aunt's work friends anyway. I was forgotten by my dad's side of the family, they didn't even answer when I called to wish them a happy Thanksgiving. So... I'd say mine was a tad bit worse than your's. Your friends may've forgotten you but my BLOOD relations who are all within 5 minutes away forgot me.

First thing I noticed too. I just chalked it up to the phenomenon that almost every photo of anyone under 25 has them doing a poseur gang sign, the shocker, or a smirk.

Can I ask why you didn't go and volunteer at a homeless shelter? They are always in need of good people to serve dinners to people who do not have a place to live! I know this because when I do not have my boys...this is how I spend my holidays!!
Trust me, someone always has it a lot worse then we do!! So the next time when you don't have any where to go....go volunteer somewhere. It definately gets you in a better mood and it makes you appreciate every thing you have!!

I do that too... people really need to teach their children some freakin manners. The next time some kid tries to snatch my kitten that's outside (I've caught them like every freakin hour today) someone's losing a finger...

I'm 27... and I get that attitude from older people too. I think there are some geezers who are too narrow minded to think that some of us "youngsters" do have common sense and self-respect. I also know first hand some 35-45 year olds who still act like little kids and can't take care of their responsibilities...

I think people oughta get to know someone rather than form an opinion based on age.

I used to live in the city. Had a puppy stolen by an 18th St wannabe. He "found it" for me later after it had been ruined by sparring with pit bulls.

Coming full circle, the National guard Armories in most cities have dinners one can volunteer at, or go to. Many times there will be entertainment. I saw Albert King perform one night. That was after the free dinner, though.
