Not much different here in Canuckland. I end up voting for the one I detest the least and rarely feel good about it.
Sad that the Conservative party has been in power as long as it has here in Alberta. They're worse than any organised crime syndicate imaginable. Corruption right through to the core. |

Actually no Robin, most do... However I don't... I have written in, I have picketed, I have protested, I have looked at standing for local government, and moving up the chain, into state and federal politics... I have been incarcerated for boycotting the voting.. I have paid the fines, and I will do more time if I dont vote again... we HAVE to vote here. cool kinda just write in your name unless yer afraid you'll win |

Just curiosity jess!
Why do they have to force you to vote? |

It is written into our legislation, it is a law for every adult, over the age of 18, naturalised, and citizen, of Australia to vote.
We get no say... it's law. Do I like it? No. Do I want to vote? Yes, give me something worthy of voting for, and I am all over it. Hence the gaol time... and the fines.. |

Believe it or not I vote for the Marijuana Party. I know that they'll never get in so I'm not too worried. Hahahaha, I used to do that, when I was young... I used to vote for the greens, until I learned of preferential votes, then I just became defiant... and now, sit and contemplate my navel, for a few days.. in remand. |

I conclude that compulsion is reasonable because it yields collective (and ultimately individual) goods and protects a number of democratic, liberal and moral values. It is suggested that although there may be an obligation (but not a duty) to vote, this obligation is not owed to the state but rather to other citizens. An important effect of compulsory voting is its capacity to make voting a more `rational' activity because it limits informational uncertainty and reduces opportunity costs. Compulsion removes most, if not all, the barriers to voting normally experienced by abstainers in voluntary systems. In doing so it releases or generates a variety of positive values, utilities and capabilities.
Reading that and yalls reaction and solutions to this horrific dilemma, I now understand! Hogwash!!! Thank god I am American, where we vote by choice! |

Which they? Fanta? Just so we dont get confused or anything?
Which 'they' are you meaning? |

Nope we have a different system.
However when you say that you have the option not to vote in States you border on treason. Voting is not a right under the American system. It is the First Duty of American citizens to vote. A duty therefore something they must do. (It's in the Constitution if I remember correctly and I could be wrong) But I do know that it is a duty not a right. |

I was thinking, rather than vote, I might just front up to the local police station, and save time..

"The vote" is a human right. It is seen as an American right. In a democracy there is nothing more fundamental than having the right to vote.
There is nothing in the constitution about it! |
