Topic: Pregnant Cat with Fleas | |
---|---|
Hi everyone, I have an outdoor cat (she comes in the house occasionally) and is about to have kittens. I have to try and keep her in the house to have her kittens because the other cats, especially the wild one will eat her kittens. She has fleas, so I am wondering if anyone has had success with safely getting rid of fleas. I've thought of vinegar/water....or garlic/water sprays.

Dawn Detergent is the best none chemical way to get rid of fleas but if she is bringing them in the house might be best to use Raid Bomb to get rid of them so they don't get back on her..
Not sure if she will let you give her a bath, but if you can that does work.. Myself I prefer the flea & tick pills you get from the vet they work awesome.... |

Oh yeah, I forgot about Dawn, thanks...you may be right about the bath part though, she probably won't let me, lol. No fleas in the house...yet, I have Adams spray to treat the house before bringing her in to help with preventing infestation. I am mainly concerned with getting rid of the fleas on her before she has the kittens, which could be anytime. I read it's not advisable to use chemicals on the cat the last two weeks of pregnancy and since I am not sure how soon she will have them I wanted to try something natural. Thanks again! |

She has fleas, so I am wondering if anyone has had success with safely getting rid of fleas. I've thought of vinegar/water....or garlic/water sprays. *********************************************** NO PROBLEMS.....Tips from Dr Paul ( The Witch doctor ) Just be gentle with your cat ...LOL 1--3 to 5 drops of cedar oil or lavender oil - 1-3 tablespoons of water.. Dilute 2-3 drops of your chosen oil in 1-3 tablespoons of water. Some people use the oil undiluted, but I personally feel it should always be diluted, even if it’s only by a little. ************************** 2---1 teaspoon white distilled vinegar or apple cider vinegar Add 1 teaspoon of white distilled vinegar or apple cider vinegar to 1 quart of their drinking water Personally, I think the cat won't drink it, but you can try. ********************************** 3---1 freshly sliced up lemon, 1 pot of fresh water and a comb, sponge, or brush. Boil a pot of water and add the slices of a freshly cut lemon to it. Turn off the heat after the lemons has been added and cover the pot, letting the mixture steep overnight. The next day dip a comb or your pets brush in the liquid (make sure it’s sufficiently cool) and run it through their hair. A sponge works as well, especially if you have a very short haired breed. A quick version is to bring water to a vigorous boil and then pour over a freshly sliced lemon. Then just dip the comb, let it cool, and use as above. ********************************* 4---1 cup white distilled vinegar or 1 cup apple cider vinegar OR a 50/50 blend of both -1 quart fresh water -2-3 drops of lavender or cedar oil -a decent sized spray bottle The essential oil isn’t vital, but it certainly gives the spray an extra edge (and a nice smell.) If you’re using it, add 2-3 drops as you add 1 cup of white distilled vinegar/apple cider vinegar/both to 1 quart of fresh water. Fill your spray bottle, and mist your cat, being careful not to get it in their eyes, nose, or ears-aka avoid spraying near the face. To get up around the neck and behind the ears/their chin area, dampen a soft cloth with the mixture and wipe it on. Spray your cat's bedding and around it with this mixture lightly as well. ********************************************* Have fun Ps:..Let me know how many scratches your get from your cat |

And mostly will be needing your advice again for the scratches... I figured vinegar would help, she probably wouldn't drink it but spraying it on her will work. She'll ingest some of it when she cleans herself and that should take care of any parasites....if she has any. Thanks again |

Put new water and garlic every 2 days for a week or so. Cheers |

Lay a shallow dishes with water and a couple of drops of dish soap around your house! The fleas jump in to drink the water and drown I've heard of that, although I've yet to try it Thanks, I'll give it a try. She had her kittens 3 weeks ago, so it's probably a good idea. |

How are the kitties doing? They're great, so cute . A couple of them seem feral, or they are just really feisty. I'm handling them now to get them used to people. Thanks for asking |

I would give her a capsule of 12mg Nitenpyram (generic for Capstar). It's not toxic, totally safe even if you double dose. It kills existing fleas on her staring almost immediately and works for 24 hours. It finds it's way to the cat's skin and they drop off dead. You can actually see them all fall off. You can get it from LittleCityDogs online. And for the environment you simply dust it with food grade diatomaceous earth, which is the tiny skeletons of diatoms. It also works fast and is not toxic. She could even ingest it; so could you and it has no effect whatsoever. It simply gets on the fleas and cuts into their waxy exoskeletons and dries them out. Garlic IS toxic! More so than onions. Watch out for home remedies. Dawn is simply the least toxic soil remover to use on an animal, if it has oil or grease on it. And Raid... omg don't use that around any cat let alone a pregnant one AND the kittens... are you kidding me? It has Pyrethrins in it, along with many other chemicals. I say please don't.

Cheers put moth balls in your vacum if you have one ... kills the fleas and leave dishes with water and a little liquid dish soap ... fleas just go right in and you can use flea wipes an even use from what others have said ...to put on the wipes and to wipe the cat down with ... |
