https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/good-news/boy-saw-how-homeless-lived-and-did-something-about-it/ar-AAmbOIG CHICAGO — At 9 years old, Jahkil Jackson is helping his community take care of those in need. It all started the day his aunt took him to feed the homeless. Jackson was saddened when he saw how the homeless lived. “They didn’t have items to start or end their day,” say Jackson. So he and his mother took action, creating the non-profit, iAMNaeem. Jackson puts together “Blessing Bags” which he hands out to the homeless community. The bags are filled with toothbrushes, socks, soap, deodorant — everyday items a person needs. He disburses the bags from the back of his godfather’s pickup truck. He’s on the ground, meeting the homeless community face-to-face while handing out bags. Jackson’s mother says he always takes charge during these trips, proving to be a strong leader at such a young age. “In a perfect world, I would buy every homeless person a house," Jackson says. "But since I can’t do that, I will try to help as much as I can.” Since starting his non-profit, he’s distributed almost 2,000 Blessing Bags. Jackson’s goal for the end of 2017 is to distribute 5,000 bags. You can do it! We’re rooting for you! |

There's no indication of this. What do the homeless think? Are they actually using the bags? I know there are organizations that help the homeless find jobs. They take them in, shower them up, give them toothbrushes, soap, shaving stuff, find employers willing to hire them, help them dress for job interviews, go through mock interviews. A lot of the homeless they take in just throw the stuff out. They just don't care. They've "forgotten" the importance of them. Many need to be reminded to brush their teeth, reminded to use soap in the shower, reminded how to shave. If they aren't "nagged" they simply don't do it. Just handing out bags of hygiene supplies is not necessarily taking "care of those in need.". The bags are filled with toothbrushes, socks, soap, deodorant — everyday items a person needs.
A person that lives as part of general society needs. That doesn't necessarily mean it's useful to homeless society. |

A person that lives as part of general society needs. That doesn't necessarily mean it's useful to homeless society. Even if a lot of them throw the stuff out, the ones who actually use them appreciates having them. I also wouldn't say this is all the boys doing. A 9 year old does not have the ability to start a Non Profit Organization. Hell, I am 38 and I started one recently and it's not easy. First you have to register with the state your in, that costs $100.00 here in Nevada. Then you have to register with the IRS and get an EIN number, then you have to file for Federal Non Profit status and that costs between $500.00-$900.00 depending on how much they receive in donations, then you have to have regular meetings where minutes are recorded. Plus I am curious to see if anyone (like one of the parents) draws a salary from this and if so how much it is. A lot of people start Non-Profits and give themselves a nice hefty salary from the donations Like with my Non Profit, not one of the board members gets a pay check. We all donate our time so 100% of money raised goes to the family of the Officer we are working with for the event we are doing. The current event is actually our first official event. It is the first annual Memorial Music Festival for United States Marine and Carson City Deputy Sheriff Carl Howell who was killed in the line of duty saving a woman and her children from a vicious predator on a Domestic Violence call. We have 12 bands and comedians coming in from across the country. We also have actors who are actively a part of this event. Gar Sinise and the Gary Sinise Foundation, Joe Mantegna (Criminal Minds, The Simpsons, The Godfather 3, Airheads) and Patrick Kilpatrick are all going to be a part of it. Mr. Sinise and Mr. Mantegna have both been pa part of events I have put together in the past as well. The point I am getting at is I thought I could just do something simple and small, but with all the laws and regulations there are it's just not practical. It's great what this young man is doing, but there is a lot more to this story, I guarantee it. www.rememberdeputyhowell.com |

incorporation laws vary by State
the article says he and his mother started the organization filling paperwork in is tedious, as someone who had to apply for welfare in the past and who has had to go through the immigration process I can attest first hand,, so Im sure the mom handled that part Nevada happens to be highly regulated but it is not necessarily so for every state If they are spending a great deal of their time and effort, I see no problem with the mother drawing a salary I commend the boy for being so active and concerned at 9 years old |

A person that lives as part of general society needs. That doesn't necessarily mean it's useful to homeless society. It is a positive act regardless of if 100% of the people use the gifts or not. And 9 times out of 10 a positive action gets a positive reaction. The kid is trying to help, and that is the point. |
