I am a single mom who has been seeing a guy slightly younger than me (me=24 he=22). We've been together for about a month now and really like eachother. Recently I found out that his mom does not like me! I have known this family for half my life and this really surprises me. This is a new relationship and I dont want it ruined. What should I do or not do?

Who told you that she did not like you? You may want to consider the source and their personal reasons for giving you that information. I think if she didn't like you, and you have known them that long you would have figured that out by now.

Well, just worry about if HE likes you or not. Maybe talk to her to figure out why she doesn't like, try to work things out if possible.

If you've known his family for so long...I would wonder why his mother dislikes you? Maybe she feels as if you could STEAL her son away from her. You know, most mothers are very protective of their sons. I know that's how fathers feel about their daughters.

My advice to you is sit down with her and find out why she doesn't like you and try to come to some type of resolve. I can tell you from first hand experience that if you don't nip this in the bud, it will come back to haunt you. The same situation was a contributing factor in my divorce, so if you really like this guy, get to the bottom of the problem. Even if you have to kiss a little ass, it's a small price to pay.

I hate to say it but when you marry someone, you marry their family as well. If they don't like you for whatever reason. Cut your losses and move on in life. There isn't much of a chance that you will change their minds about you and living your life with him while you walk on egg-shells, isn't much of a life.
