Kinda just leaving this open although I realize how broad of a subject it can be. I started playing 10 years ago when I was 35, still wish I would have kept my guitar I had when I was 17 and kept at it instead of partying so much! I really should play better than I do and sometimes lose motivation, maybe this will spark a flame and make me practice new things! I guess to start off what do you play? I have a Washburn d9 that I actually love for being inexpensive, no problems staying in tune and really like the sound. Also an epiphone sg which I wish I would have just got a lower Gibson sg, I find the epiphone neck is too heavy and when I use a strap I'm having to hold the neck up while I play. Anyway, have at it... Favorite guitars, songs to play, essential scales, whatever you want...

ok I'll just put up some of my guitars on my profile pic and explain what they are and what I've done to them

ok the black les paul is a custom pro tuxedo made in Korea, not china, by epiphone. It has Gibson classic 57 pick ups in it and the Gibson circuit board for the pots with the quick disconnect. The electronics came out of a wrecked Gibson les paul classic. I put the grover tuners on with the tulip buttons all gold hardware, roller bridge, switchcraft switch and I copper coated all the cavities of the guitar. Plays like the real thing ... very fast action

The blue guitar is another epiphone Les Paul. Its the ultra III model. It has a blue tiger top, roller bridge and original epi pickups. It also has a third pickup called a nanomag pickup made from rare earth metals. Its built into the first fret and acts as a acoustic pickup. It also has the built in tuner with led lights. The back of the guitar has a built in equalizer and it has a usb port for hooking up to the puter and running software that gives you some unreal sounds. It also has stereo hookups for running dual patch cords so one can run to your electric amp and the other to an acoustic amp. You can switch from electric to acoustic with just touching the upper tone pot. Its one of my fav's to play

I was interested in the epiphone les Paul when I was getting the sg, kinda wish I would have. Sucks when you're inexperienced making your first real purchase. That's awesome you have the know how to tweak yours to get the sound you want!

gets expensive if you want luthier to do the work for ya. they charge as much as getting your car fixed

the epi sg is kinda the cheap model. But I do have one and its heavily customized.

The pic I have up now are 2 Gibson les pauls. One is a '79 and completely original, the other was a basket case when I got it its a 1980 model, solid American walnut

I have a Hondo 732 deluxe series, was made in Korea, not sure the age of it. It was my ex wife's grandfathers who was a country singer. I had it set up for slide guitar, still have yet to delve in to it deeper. I know it's a cheap guitar but I really like it, could be the nostalgia of it. I've looked them up to research it more, like everything else some people like them some think they're junk. I need to get new tuners for it, other than that I really like it.

The neck was like over tightened and there was no adjustment left, so I carved a piece of American walnut and inserted it into the neck onto the truss rod so I could straighten the neck. Plays great. everything on it is new Gibson so kinda like a retro guitar. It was stripped when I got it

Hey people are collecting those Hondo's now. There is a real movement out there for collecting 60's and 70's guitars

They make all kinds of retro tuners you should replace them. If they are original pickups I bet they have a real warm sound to them

It does have a warm sound actually, the neck is warped just a little so my low e string would buzz slightly which is why I had it switches to a slide with a higher nut. I want to take it in and replace the nut again and make it just high enough to stop the buzzing. It's funny how playing something that's been around for a while gives you a nostalgic feeling

nuts are easy to remove, problem is getting it filed just right for the set up. You could also put the guitar into a homemade jig, like the neck I mean, loosen the truss rod take the strings off and leave it tight in the jig for about a couple months and see if it pulls back

Yeah I would trust myself doing that! I need to find a place I can trust, I have a very old mountain dulcimer I took to a shop to fix the tuners, they replaced them but after a while it cracked the wood, seems they just threw them on without caring. They went out of business shortly after... Kind of a bummer because that was my exes mothers. Very fun to play, just need to find a place to fix it now.

the tuning posts were probably too big for the headstock holes and they forced them in, over time and with string tension the cracks will develop around the holes in the headstock, They should have used a wood reamer to open the holes just slightly or they tightened them to much. That really sucks.

Did it like crack the headstock completely or are they just hairline cracks?
