I also am not sure about the 7 years. I do know ppl tend to have cycles, but I believe those aren't exactly the same length for everyone.
For me, my LTRs lasted 11 & 10 years. So maybe I have a 10-11 year thing.

And sure, things start to go downhill before you pull the plug out, but that goes for the 7 yr thing too...
So if you end each relationship after 7 yrs, one could reason that things would start to go south around 5-6 yrs in...

I don't know whether it's a myth or not but it does happen. Not necessarily in exactly "7 years" though. I believe what happens is, after so many years, couples tend to get comfortable with each other and they stop doing the things they once did when they first started dating. For some, this can become boring so they either end the relationship and/or stray thinking there is something better out there.
