When I was younger I could climb the highest tree, but I was terrified of thunder and lightning storms.

Now, I hate heights and love the clash of thunder and lightning.

Does anyone else feel your fears of anything, have changed from youth to adulthood for better or worse? frustrated

Yes. My fears in general have lessened due to the fact that I have learned the truth in the phrase "this too shall pass". Everything does.

Well, now that we are older, we not stupid & no longer believe we are invincible.

Now, we just forget why we walked into a room & laugh at yourselves.

I think it is outlook & acceptance.
I use to love to be out in the snow.
Now.. It snows, & I think "Oh..pretty!, Oh God..ice! , Somebody do something!"

Definitely. For many years I was completely fearless when it came to risks of moderate injuries. Climbing, cycling, acrobatics - anything that involved heights or moderate speeds meant "fun" more than "danger". When I did injure myself, I healed quickly and was right back at it!

Now that I'm older, injuries don't heal as fast or as well, and I worry a lot more about permanent injury or death.

So now I do different things. I mean, who needs rock climbing, capoeira, or parkour anyway?

Do Your Fears Change AsYou Get Older?

Maybe.

When I was younger I could climb the highest tree, but I was terrified of thunder and lightning storms.

Now, I hate heights and love the clash of thunder and lightning.

Maybe your fears haven't really changed.

I mean as a kid you can be scared of getting hurt.
You climb a tree, but it's by your own hand, you have control over it, you wouldn't hurt yourself, so no reason to be afraid.
But you have no control over thunder and lightning and it can strike you at any time for all you know.

When you get older, you're scared of getting hurt. The most likely cause is by falling off something, slipping and falling. You've probably slipped and fallen off something in your life, even though you felt in complete control at the time, maybe on an ice patch walking down the street.
Thunder and lightning you learned to count to see how far away it is, and you can always go inside your house and it's safe enough, plus you've never been hit by lightning or thunder before, you can control that.

So, you got older, your fears remained the same, but you think they've changed.

So, maybe fears don't change. Only what we come to associate with what will cause them to come true.

Possibly....but I know within myself my structure has changed as to how I look at things and control my fears.

When I was younger I had a mild social phobia but there was nothing that really scared me, much to my mothers horror. Now that I'm older the thought of dying from something doesn't scare me as much as surviving it and the hospital stay/medical bills that fallow survival. Not to mention quality of life issues in the aftermath.

When I was young I had no fears only curiosity, but now at middle age I don't call them fears I refer to them as concerns.

But, we do change whether they are concerns or fears. They are still there.
