A lot of people do not see the difference. Personality is friendly vs reserved Easy going vs intense Personality is what attracts us, but is it a basis for love? Character is depth-integrity-true honesty and truthfulness. Some people fall in love with personality only to discover the other's true character and then are shocked to discover the flaws in their loved one. "Thoughts?" |

the personality is whats called there personsa....its what we present to the world....its like protective shield around us.....thats why we all have hidden agendas....until the right buttons are pushed to bring them out.....when we first meet someone we are in protective mode....we do not know them and we do not know what they are capable of....male or female...courtship is a time to help get to know someone because once we do get to know them we really might not like them after all.....today people rush into relationships much to fast only to get there feelings stepped on or worse,,especially the ladies.... |

Both are closely related, and maybe it's mostly personality you fall for or first notice, it is shaped by the character.
I think there's only a huge discrepancy between the two when someone has a personality disorder, like the infamous narcissist. |

Personality is shaped by character but can also be hidden behind a façade. |

I think there's only a huge discrepancy between the two when someone has a personality disorder, like the infamous narcissist. Crystal I totally agree with this. I really believe that our personality is starting shape and evolve from the time of birth, maybe even before. There are some interesting studies out there on babies in the womb and outside womb interaction. It changes to what is going in our lives, how we deal with things etc.. Our Character to me is an extension of all this and more. I believe we also use our insight to what characteristic's that we either keep as we get older or we enhance them and keep them or throw them out. I also think a lot of learned behavior comes into play in this area. I personally look at both the first personality I am shown and what characteristics are shown and what evolves later as I get to know someone. To many layers to a person to say either way really. Personality is what attracts us, but is it a basis for love?
Honestly what attracts us is more than personality it can be the way a person smiles, the tones in their voice, and what is the basis for love all that and way way more. sigh |

I'm all about the other person's personality... I could care less about their character... if they like clubbing baby seals over the head.. or think it's okay to get stinking drunk on Saturday night and then go to church on Sunday morning that's on them..
But if their personality is flat..well.. That's a game changer..lol |

A lot of people do not see the difference.
I think most people are inherently capable of figuring it out, though. Personality is
highly malleable to a situation. Character is
more consistent over long periods of time. Some people fall in love with personality
Sometimes character matches personality. "Thoughts?"
Figuring them out is part of the normal everyday dating process. There's a reason why people want to go out and do things, why they want to meet your friends and family, why George Costanza had such a problem with his "worlds colliding." Different situations and interacting with the people that know you best gives others a greater understanding of your true character. You will never be efficient at communicating your actual character. Only other people and sharing experiences will ever shed light on what it is. And that should lead to an insight a lot of people (especially forum users) regarding meeting people online and forming "friendships" with people you only ever interact with on the internet. |

" Friendships" especially formed on the forum are priceless |
