Topic: E-Mail Color Coding: What Happened? | |
---|---|
A few months back, in a thread about people not replying to e-mails, Mike posted that they were looking into the possibility of setting up a system that would rate members' response rates, and a colored box or border or something in their profile would indicate whether or not that person was going to be likely to reply if you sent them anything.
As I recall, it would be something like green for those who replied all or most of the time, yellow for those who were more like 50-50, and red for those who hardly ever or never replied. The idea was so that you could have some idea about whether you wanted to write to someone or not, based on their response history, which I thought was a pretty good idea. But it's been a long time since I heard anything at all about the idea. And if something was said, I might have missed it during one of those days when I was forced to go outside and chase the llamas off the lawn or something. Just wondering.... |

LEX, what about people like me who don't e-mail much? I post in the forums and don't use e-mail much. Wouldn't that unfairly tag me as a rude person that doesn't reply to mail? I reply to 99.9% of all my e-mail. So I really don't care for this idea much. I might sterotype those of us who communicate in the forums more than with the e-mail box.

Well, I would think it would be based on a percentage of replies to received, as opposed to raw totals. I mean, answering 99 out of 100 is way different from answering 99 out of 2472.
I'm a little unclear as to how the exact percentages would work though -- like, is 75% green or yellow, where do you set the limits for each category? And then you might have a situation where someone answers 100% of the mail from their own area, and 0% from people far away, so the 50% average (or however it was skewed, based on the ratio of local-to-distant) would be misleading, because it would all depend on your proximity to that person, but you would have no way of knowing that. |
