We have reason, the ability to think and do thinks outside of the box of our species so to speak.
That's what sets us apart from animals. Animals do what they do, merely based on instinct, and will continue to do so for centuries. They evolve a bit, but not really.

They cannot think, "geee, I've been eating worms all my life, why not try a pizza for a change?!"

Or the type of spider that eat its male after mating ... she won't suddenly think "Oh, poor fella! I'm gonna let him live! He's been so nice! Sex was great. Off you go, sweetheart!"

Nor do they think "If I study ..... I will be able to ... and then I'll be a better tiger!"
Animals don't think "How can I make this world a better place?" nor do they think "Geezzz, this place sux!"

A lion won't start to think "Mmm... if I rub them sticks together I can make fire and I can have smoked zebra! That must be easier to digest!"

Animals don't change their ways, unless they have to in order to survive.

We on the other hand, we got freedom of choice, we are not bound by what our species did in the Iron Age etc. We can evolve, grow and develop. Within a very short time.

I have been call a "beast" when it comes to certain areas in my life....and "an animal" most of the time.....but I also know they like me that way....so.....that makes me.....me...just saying...

Perhaps this is the greatest difference between a human and a nonhuman animal. Our ability to voice our opinion and create change in the world.
