DES MOINES, Iowa –  The Powerball jackpot has reached $900 million just hours before Saturday night's drawing.

With sales breaking previous records, the odds are growing that someone will win. But if no one matches all the numbers, the next drawing is expected to soar to $1.3 billion, according to officials with the Multi-State Lottery Association, which runs the Powerball game.

"You can throw out the logic. You can throw out the statistics," Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery, said Friday. "We've never seen jackpots like this. It's a new experience for all of us."

Since Nov. 4, the Powerball jackpot has grown from its $40 million starting point as no one has won the jackpot. This kind of huge jackpot was just what lottery officials hoped for last fall when they changed the odds of matching all the Powerball numbers, from about one in 175 million to one in 292.2 million. By making it harder to win a jackpot, the tougher odds made the ever-larger prizes inevitable.

The bigger prizes draw more players, who in turn make the jackpots even bigger.

So many people were buying Powerball tickets in Iowa on Friday that lottery spokeswoman Mary Neubauer said some stores were running out of paper for tickets, leaving lottery workers scrambling to resupply the outlets.

The odds are a matter of statistics and probability, but they're facts that most players may not completely understand, said Ron Wasserstein, executive director of the Alexandria, Virginia-based American Statistical Association.

"Once you get numbers that size, it's hard for people to wrap their minds around them," Wasserstein said.

The celebrity chef is selling her 5.5-acre Savannah, Georgia, estate for $12.5 million, a source confirms to PEOPLE. The private property — where she filmed her Food Network cooking shows — boasts a 14,500-sq.-ft. home, a stocked pond, a croquet court, a chicken coop, a 10,000-sq.-ft. barn, a dock house and more.

“When Paula is in Savannah, she wants an easier and simpler life,” the source says, citing a slew of Deen’s projects, including expanding her restaurant business, new cookbooks and her recently launched digital network. But all that won’t stop her from picking up a new project: creating another Deen-designed home in — where else? — Savannah. “She can’t wait to find, renovate and design her next home.”

Even though Deen is keeping her primary residence in Georgia, the chef is looking at apartments in New York for a potential second home.

I remember being in the states, must have been 3 years ago now.

I go's into a shop and asked the lady for some tickets for the powerball, if I remember right it was about 300 million, it was all over the news about this jackpot.

Anyway the lady heard my accent and asked me if I was American, I said no, just here on holiday.

So good enough of her, she told me not to bother because I wouldn't get paid out anyway as I'm not a citizen.

So I bought the tickets anyway and gave them to an American guy I knew and the deal was a 50/50 split if I won.

So guess what, I didn't wine a dime.

Yes Archer, we have two, the normal British one and the Euro's.

Which reminds me, tonight is the biggest jackpot ever in the history of the British one, and the rules state once it reaches over 50 million pound it must be won.

If no one has the 6 numbers it will go to 5 and the bonus, in this case it will more than likely be shared.

Geez...that's too much...lol..I would buy everyone in my family RV's and we would tour through all the states...try to get a few businesses going to employ people who have difficult times finding work due to background checks...would create a way to house people with the same problem...I don't want much...not into showing off...but it would be nice to never worry about the cost of living...oh yeah...I would also track down all my mingle favs and get us all together for a weekend of fun...yup...going to have some awesome daydreams for the next couple days......
