Do you answer messages that just say “hello” or ”Hi how are you?"

If I took online dating all that seriously I might.

But it would depend on a lot of things.

Like if they had pictures on their profile and they didn't look like stolen pics.

Like if their profiles say anything meaningful and actually represent someone I am in any way attracted to.

Like if I am just in the mood and feel like responding.

Like if I'm not talking to other people.

Then I might answer.

An email takes seconds to send.

Lots of people treat it like instant messenger.

But it also depends on the website.

If the dating website was highly reputable and the only people that could contact me were local matches I'd be more likely to respond than if I was open to anyone from any country, especially those known for hosting scammers.

I answer everyone. Always have. One word messages get one-word answers.

In my original profile...when I was still searching that is...
I specifically stated hi or hello wouldn't get me answering...
still didn't stop 95% of my mail saying those exact words...

I see Hi or How are you? messages as a polite way for someone to say look at my profile.

If it is non-existent, looks like a scammer, lame I don't even bother to answer. Sometimes I block them right there and then. Depends if TV is boring or interesting. and I am feeling social I may say hi and welcome someone but too often people take that as interest when it is just being civil.

If the profile is interesting I will Say hello on return and maybe comment on a like interest but I have serous preference for dating local and/or people I meet in person

About 90% of the people do not read my profile and assume I am 48 not 61.

I should really be asked to provide a positive response to A Lame Monosyllabic Post of "Hi"? Duhhhhhhhhhh!
NOT! I ask myself; "What type of person with any manner of any intelligence would even think to open conversation with such a "Beavis & Butt-Head approach to dialogue"?

Sad because many of the profiles that men have posted, only contain this "Hi" as a heading with nothing else offered in their "About Me" section. I say to that mindset; "Why bother...?" I'll wager that many of these individuals are the same fellows whiningsad about a "lack of responses:{"

Exactly! You’ve got to put forth a little more effort than that. I’d wager that some of those guys really wouldn’t want to be judged solely on their awkward pictures.
