ok here's my issue..yes you have to protect society, and in theory punishment is a deterent to crime..but..moral arguments over the right to take a life aside, it is certainly not ethical to take a life of someone who could in theory be innocent. ever met twelve people on the street? how much would you trust them to decide someone's fate? i'm not impressed enough with society to jump on that wagon. plus as many people have said, it cannot be un-done. i feel just as much rage over inequities in justice and innocent people being hurt..but that's just the thing..i don't want to be one of those people who potentially hurts an innocent person by ordering the taking of their life through state execution. that said, i have no qualms with a life sentence without possability of early release. it can be reverted to some degree if new facts come to light later.

tombraider..that's bordering on slave labor...i'm not sure i agree with possibly indefinite prison work colonies...you're stepping into dangerous territory with that option..to some extent perhaps, but conditions must be humane..to have the ethical right to cast judgement, there must be a modicum of human decency with which we enforce the laws or we are behaving similarly to those who broke them. that said..prison work crews as an optional program for non-violent prisoners to participate in, as they are in my state, are an excellent resource and its done by mutual agreement.

I believe in the death penalty, because I know it exists. I don't support the death penalty, but I don't have any animosity towards anyone who does.

Personally, I dont judge anyone on what they believe because everyone is entitled to their own opinions and convictions.....i just would hate to ever be on the other side of the coin (God Forbid)(the parents of that murdered child)....she never deserved to die either yet some asshole decided to take it for her...just sad!

I'm all for it! humans know that to murder someone is wrong, that's what makes us different from four legged animals. as far as I'm concerned if you murder you need to disappear! but our whole justice system is flawed and unfortunately innocence is sometimes lost...and that sucks!

maybe if they knew that if they went to jail they were going to have to work might work well as a deterrent ,not to mention give them some skills so when they get out their not back to their same old ways, bordering maybe but not quite there, all you have to do is incorporate it into their punishment there is nothing wrong with them earning their keep,also might help some of the problems we have with the hiring of illegal immigrants

The death penalty was abolished in this country.

And I for one, am glad it was.

jess..a few of the states have abolished it. we're down to only one charge that allows it..aggravated murder..i still don't agree with it..cause i don't agree with the death penalty. but at least we haven't executed anyone for about ten years.

I support the death penalty for those who commit heinous crimes. In my opinion it isn't simply killing that is wrong, it is the killing innocent people. I have no objection to the destruction of undesirable elements of society (murderers, rapists, child molesters, traitors).

It certainly saves all the tax money that has to be diverted into keeping them alive in a cell for the rest of their lives. As far as forcing someone into living with guilt goes, it's impossible. Some people have can feel no regret or remorse. Not all criminals share the same thought processes as regular individuals, which is, in many cases, why the committed the crime in the first place. Even for those that can feel sorry for themselves, it's far too expensive to keep them alive simply for this reason. Scumbags having pity parties doesn’t really help society out in any perceivable manner.

And as for Bruno, or whoever else the criminal in question has to fear, sex offenders (who I at least consider the lowest of the low and most deserving of the death penalty) are generally kept out of general pop for their own safety. Again, catering to the mentality of the criminals as victims.

Yea it sucks that innocent people are sometimes the victims of mistakes, but that serves as no reason to completely abolish a program such as the death penalty. Innocent people can end up getting locked up for 15+ years of their lives for crimes they didn’t commit too. Does that mean we should rid ourselves of prisons as well?

I know, maybe we should give criminals a cake and a $500 check every time they break the a law. Then they'll see how nice our judicial system is and revert to being law abiding citizens. Afterwards we can all run down to the bubblegum meadow and take a dip in the chocolate milk lake.

Curious, sadly your information is incorrect, the last execution in the US was in Texas, on the 25th of September this year.

Man has executed wrong doers since the beginning of time.
Why should we support & care for rapists, child molesters, murder's & all other extreme criminals, when we treat the elderly & poor worse.

Always a few have suffered for the bettermnet of the whole.
Quit spending so much money on the criminals & put the money into health care for those that can't afford it.

Giving a murdering child molester an organ transplant, is WRONG.
