So peeps, I am really struggling with this right now.
Why does God supposedly hate gays, or does He? I hear of an Islamic tradition where they will throw you off a high building if you practise it. I hear of active protests from Christians all over the place. Me, I have a gay brother, so I am very open to understanding his perspective. Why do people think homosexuality is wrong? Is it because of the bible? Why does God think homosexuality is wrong, or is it no different to Him than let's say lying, stealing? Should not love be celebrated and not condemned, no matter what face it displays? |

I think the story goes something like God hates the sin but loves the sinner. We humans have difficulty separating the transgressor from the transgression to put it in non religious language.Peoples interpretation of the Bible would have made a significant contribution to the way people perceive homosexuality, particularly in the Western world. But there are many cultures who do not use the Bible as a standard and they also disparage homosexuality.

Is it because of the bible? Why does God think homosexuality is wrong, or is it no different to Him than let's say lying, stealing? Should not love be celebrated and not condemned, no matter what face it displays? I believe people opposed many things long before they were in a religious book, or else the religious books wouldn't have been written in the first place,, but I also believe the trend is to call a morale a 'religious' one to kind of dismiss its legitimacy or logic as humans, I think there is an understanding that we are created from male and female unions,, that children come from those unions, and that children (as a reault of being crated from male and female)are best off having a mother and father who were devoted to each other,,,,that heterosexual sex is a NECESSARY behavior for our existence I think its 'wrong' not because of only the bible but because of its unnatural nature to lay down with the same sex,, because there is no actual penetration other than with objects or fingers that two women can actually have and because I also believe **** sex is not a healthy activity, just as I believe incestual sex is not healthy(even if neither were capable of having kids,, the SEX would be an unhealthy activity) I don't feel 'love' should be condemned, but I don't think sex is the synonym for love,,,they are separate issues I will never oppose anyones 'love' for another, but I will believe there are unhealthy things that people DO in the name of ''love' I likewise do not define people by their actions, I also have loved ones who are in the gay lifestule,,,WHO they are is so much more than that one detail though,, |

It would be very hard to answer this objectively for a few reasons.
One...political correctness Two...hypocritical misunderstandings (intentional and non-intentional) Three...righteous indignation Four...definition of terms...hate, does God "hate" ? Wrong, "wrong" in what way? Five...diversified versions and understanding of God Six...justification of a homosexual perspective and experience (or non-experience) of God Seven...assumptions. Just like we don't want people to put words in our mouth, i don't want to speak as if I'm speaking for God. There are probably a few more...lol.. There are some verses in the bible that can point to answers to your questions. It only depends on the reader on how to interpret and apply to life. You'll just have to figure out how much of what you interpret is for your benefit, and how much for God. We can deceive ourselves, but God will not be deceived. I agree with Frank, there are some people or populations that simply don't like homosexuals, and they don't need religion or God to dislike homosexuals. It doesn't stop some of them to use the bible or any religious text to justify what they feel on their own, and as usual, use the name of God as a scapegoat for their own reasons. But i am thinking...if everyone eventually became homosexual, we would all cease to exist...lol...but then again, we would probably have made provisions to perpetuate ourselves by cloning and artificial methods of fertilization... Peace. |

"But i am thinking...if everyone eventually became homosexual, we would all cease to exist...lol...but then again, we would probably have made provisions"
I have heard this a lot, but I think that gay men and lesbians get on and would come to an arrangement of donor and surrogate quite easily. Regardless, I doubt 99% homosexuality would happen. I personally think we are moving towards a largely bisexual society similar to society described by Arthur c Clarke. As we move into the future people will be less judgemental on sexuality and so feel more free to express their true desires. (maybe) PS Ladywind do not pay much attention to what religion says abt gays. There is a saying of 'doing it Greek', this relates to ancient Greece where they loved it up the bum. I think they were more liberal and so it was less hidden than in other societies then, or since. Im suggesting that it is and prob has always been quite normal to have a percentage of people straight, bi, and gay. What is not acceptable is adults taking the sexual innocence of children. Look to the church and other religions for the worst offenders here. I take no sexual advice from any religion, do you? To be clear, im suggesting you dont let any religious opinion change the view of or love for your bro. ;) |

If God really does "hate" gays, why did he create them?

because it's pointless... people can love anyone without having to have sex with them...

If God really does "hate" gays, why did he create them? For those who believe in God that is a very relevant question. Usually the answer is He didn't create them gay, they chose to be gay. Scientific research is pointing in a different direction. For those who don't believe in God,the question is irrelevant. |

The gist of the scientific research as I interpret it is,when we are born we have chromosomes which determine our sexual orientation,we don't choose to be what we are,it is already written in our DNA.I am not a scientist merely,a reader.Sorry I can't provide references. I'm sure Igor will help us out. |

Scientific research is pointing in a different direction. For those who don't believe in God,the question is irrelevant. there is no such 'scientific' research there can never be,, because science can never truly have a sample of 'homosexuals' being it is a SELF ASSIGNED perception/label and because there would have to be some supposition that ALL homosexuals are EITHER choosing or ALL homosexuals are 'born that way' I know of two who had homosexual lifestyles and now either are exclusively with a woman or with women and men are they 'homosexual' for having ever wanted men, or are they 'bisexual' for wanting both, are they previously homosexual and now hetero and bisexual, or are they deceiving others by trying to fit in,, how can that be SCIENTIFICALLY determined? answer is,,, it cant science can find a gene or hormone that is common amongst a group,, like they found a 'fat' gene, I believe but this only meant that it was EASIER for these people to get fat, not that they were 'born that way' if they End up fat,,, they also found some gene in SOME homosexual people and the community immediately jumped to that as proof of being 'born that way',, except this gene was in homosexuals with twins, who also had it but were not gay so again, back to it will never be SCIENTIFICALLY proven because sexual preference occurs over our lifetimes on a continuum,,,, |

The results of the research may not be accurate but the methods used are scientific to a degree.Animals participate in same sex activities,do they self assign assign labels ? Do they choose which label will be assigned to them ? I cannot give a definitive answer to the questions you pose on homo/hetero/bi sexual situations but if the labels are self assigned then people have been know to change their perceptions. The changes could be ascribed to chemical changes in the persons make up something akin to bi polarity.Again I'm speculating not claiming any expertise in the area. However we are all aware that two swallows don't make a summer. To say "sexual preference occurs over our lifetimes on a continuum,,,," in my view implies that we choose our sexual preference.I am not aware at what point in my life I choose to be hetero, perhaps it was conditioning. Now what was the question ? My reply also stated science is pointing, not science has concluded. It is a subjective belief,as I replied to Moe I don't have any references. The main points of my post were the first and last lines in response to a hypothetical premise. |

The main points of my post were the first and last lines in response to a hypothetical premise. no, but I know science can no more 'prove' someone is 'born' as a homosexual than they can prove they are 'born' preferring salty snacks over sweet ones but perhaps semantically, I should have stated science' pointing' elsewhere means nothing,, science can 'point' in as many directions as the scientists agendas can look for,,,, and God created humans,, and gave them free will from there to be liars, or cheaters, or promiscuous, or abstinent, or homosexual, or heterosexual, or ,,etc,,etc,,,, behavior is a choice and I don't believe in 'hating' sinners , nor do I think God does,,, but I will 'hate' sin,, as I also believe God does |
