Actually my guy does all that for me. I love it and I show him I appreciate the niceties of being treated that way.
Some will enjoy it and some will tell you that they can open their own doors. |

Dude....you should date Southern chicks. You don't open the door for them......then no nookie for you.

Maybe. Maybe it's not so much not believing you as much as not caring because it's not all that relevant until you actually start dating and exhibiting "old fashion romantic man" behavior? There are a ton of people who constantly say things like- "I'm smart" "I'm funny" "I'm old fashioned" "I'm low maintenance." "I'm employed." "I'm not living in my mothers basement." "I'm single/not married." "That is my actual picture." People say they are all sorts of things online. Lots of those things just aren't true. But, in the mind of the person saying what they are it is true. he didnt think it was a big deal that i insisted on opening the doors for her.
Sometimes that can be annoying. Especially if you make a big dramatic deal about it. Or like if you're on a first date and you basically lunge over her completely violating her personal space, forcing her face into your armpits trying to reach over her head, or shoving her out of the way so you can get in the push open (as opposed to pull) door first. am i living in the past?
You are if you are insisting on opening automatic doors for her. Otherwise the thing about doors is someone's got to open it. If you don't then you're just going to be standing outside staring at each other not knowing what to do. Opening a door isn't all that old fashioned. It's just something that needs to be done. If you open the door for her because the metal hoops of her dress are too wide or her corset prevents her from a lot of lateral movement, then you're old fashioned. |

Don't forget to order the chariot in advance for her and cover up the puddle directly in front of it with your haberdasherie man coat so she doesn't step into it with her dainty silk slippers.

Maybe. You are 66. It is safe to say that you will be old- fashion. Believe? If it is important to you that "girls believe" what you say. Then you have to be consistent. You just don't say you are a gentleman, and when things get tough, you can be compelled to say words, just for the luxury of lashing out. It is contradicting. I dont know with other girls. But with woman who are independent and so much is at stake, we check how far you could back up your words with actions on how "gentleman" you really are. she didnt think it was a big deal that i insisted on opening the doors for her.
if this is literal: Chances are you are right. It is not big deal to her. Does it really matter? am i living in the past?
My take: You are not. And you are not outdated. More than half of women, if they are honest with themselves, prefer gentleman. Old fashion? Romantic? - Still very "in" as far as I know. What is important sir, if I may be blunt is consistency. As a man, u have the responsibility to own up your words. And back it up with action. If you say you are a gentleman, then be one. Time have a way of telling, no matter how gentleman you are at first. Consistency. |

Also, I do the same thing to other people, i.e. opening doors or standing up / giving up my seat in a crowded public vehicle if I see someone who needs it more than I do. It's called good manners, last time I looked. :) |
