Some people here post pictures of animals, scenery,symbols,texts,etc as profile picture or no picture at all.

Any personal pic.WHY?. It's very difficult to have an idea who the person is.However;I understand the personal anonymity.

Not everyone here is looking to date. I was only here for the forums but the site is enforcing the picture rule and I don't like the bubble. Some have to hide. Either wrong reasons or for work or they have a crazy ex

Some are married and don't want spouse to find out
some are not confident enough about their own looks and hide behind a pretend image in order to compensate
Some are here just to visit on forum and not date

And some are fake profiles looking to scam people out of money.

... and, some simply just don't care.

There's no reason to.
I don't have to.
I get nothing from it.

Which is related to the answer to almost all personal questions of "why don't they?"
There's either a lack of incentive to do something, or a greater incentive to not do something.
What people value is going to be different than what you do.


There's no guarantee any picture I put up is actually of me.
If I did post one, it could be my brother. It could be some random facebook page. You would never know. I will never meet you.

All a picture offers you is a false sense of security for your own peace of mind.
It offers nothing to me.


The bubble goes away if you just click your mouse button once.

Have I seen this thread before or something very similar from you. I know when I first started due to my job I couldn't post a picture period. I had no problems webcamming back then actually insisted on it.

To me I don't worry much, what people have on their profile I am not really interested I care more to know the person. And if they aren't what they say their loss not mine.

and some just don't want to.

..you left out some of us are confused and don't know who we are at any given time.....

..you left out the fact that some of us are so devastatingly beautiful or handsome that if we leave a picture up of ourselves our mailboxes light up like Christmas trees lol..

Me personally, I got tired of all the scammers contacting me. Sometimes 30 or more a day. Taking my picture down stopped it. At least for now.

I explain in my profile why I no longer have a profile pic.
Occasionally, I will add a pic in my post.

Some just can't because of work. Can't have face book, twitter, photos.. nothing personal. Just professional information

Why?

Because depending on what you do or your standing,industry people ( competitors, rivals, ect) will(and do) review those type accounts to gain a edge or view into your personal life. And that is not good business.

Photo (once out on the web) can end up anywhere. And usually the person is the last to know.

People have been passed up for promotions or not given the position at all because of information gathered from their web accounts. No H/R dept. will admit to that.. but it is done.. all the time.

case in point: I know of a person who was seeking a position that required him to entertain customers (wine & dine). He also had a few photos on the web of him partying and clearly drunk. Now.. are you going to send him out with clients?... he didn't get the position.

Security. again, just professional info goes out.

So, in this day and age and at a certain business level it is expected that you do not post any personal info on the internet.

It doesn't help that all the sites now enjoy sending threats to people who's pictures they dislike for whatever reason. Mine is old, and I wont bother to update it anymore, here or elsewhere, because this and other sites threaten to punish you by killing all your pictures if they chance to imagine there's a problem with whatever you post.

They might think they are encouraging honesty and communication, but all they are doing is discouraging any of us from posting anything at all. If they complain any more, I'll have to join the no-picture-at-all crowd.

My old profile picture was a painting that I personally own so no problem with any copyright issues. That picture was removed by the site administrators as it seemed that they wanted a "face-shot"[preferably with a smile]. Without my permission or knowledge, a "New" picture was substituted by the site. Having not been on the site for a while; I wasn't even made aware that this had been done until logging-on. Although I'm pretty laid-back on the issue of visuals; I felt uncomfortable about this change being made without my approval. At this point, I am only on this site for the forums & openly have had this fact written on my profile but, again-who reads "The profile"? "CUTE"- That's a word which just hits me like squeaky chalk on a board...I find that adjective-"Cringe-Worthy & Patronizing". A child is CUTE, furry, cudley animal is CUTE...ect. Well, enough written on that rant & needless to say I think I've satisfied the site's criteria for a face snap[without the smile & "Cute-Ness-Factor" element] but it's at least, an attempt at a compromise;}

I have notice the site is not letting you put up what u want in a profile picture anymore ... and I love art and like to use those kinds of pictures ... and the take them down ... don't care to put one up as myself ... but not trying to scam anyone or hide anything ... this site is so open how can you lol ... so I just prefer now not to ... and rebelling a little now... that I can't put up what I like ...

The "other" pics build your character, show parts of your interests or life and provide a bit of fun in a profile....

I think it is a shame we cant use these as our main pics anymore.....
we have lost a bit of that fun interesting aspect....

I hope the moderator lets my post stay. It's sorta on topic. And it's sorta not.

I'm a moderator on another site. A site that doesn't allow you to post a main picture of anyone or anything but you. We check pictures. If it's a picture of some porn star or just some random picture off of the internet, we delete it. In some cases, we will delete a whole profile. It just depends on what it is that the person in question is doing.

Just like all dating sites we do get some scammers. But they are usually dealt with pretty quick. By not letting people post just whatever picture they want to post as a main pic, we have cut down on the scammers a lot. If the folks that run this site will do the same, they will also cut down on a lot of there scammers.

What good is it to post a picture of anything but of yourself? No sense in trying to hide. If all you want to do is talk, don't post a picture at all. Write it in your profile or header that you are not seeking anyone. You're only here for, well, like these forums. If you are looking for your soulmate, you need a picture of yourself.
