Burt Reynolds was in Smokey and The Bandit and Cannonball run. In those days they didn't rely on a lot of special effects. Some stunt people were also the actors.

Smokey And The Bandit 1 and 2, Cannonball Run 1 and 2, and Hooper were directed by Hal Needham, who was one of Hollywood's top stuntmen, he was able to bring in some of the best in the biz.
