After last weeks fiasco that came out on the good end, Rain has kept the Captain docked but today's Market yielded a good recovery on the week (well, better than nothing anyway, lol). A few adjustments and I'll be maximizing my efforts hopefully sooner than later. If you were walking through a Farmers Market, what bakery product could you see and not resist?

something we always had in 1 gallon zip lock bags and our 4-H group sold out every time!!! I'm still getting people calling and asking when our club will be bringing them back; haven't been involved with 4-H in many years either! LOL But they do sell really well. |

Other than the Wheat flour, I'm sure the other ingredients would be much of what I already use but unless I can get that to work in the afternoon markets, and certainly I've not seen these ever being sold at any farmers markets, but I have a feeling the morning markets would not fair to well. The same reason the cinnamon rolls have been selling out before 10:00 AM. Thanks for the idea however, I may just test the afternoon markets with this one. |

I'm happy to hear that you've had a successful weekend; we'd played around with other options such as egg bread rolls &/or potato rolls but our whole wheat rolls{that image was just for example purposes only} always sold out first and foremost.
Now everything seems to have gotten on that 'GLUTEN FREE' train and that's what lots of bake sale items are offering! |

I'm happy to hear that you've had a successful weekend; we'd played around with other options such as egg bread rolls &/or potato rolls but our whole wheat rolls{that image was just for example purposes only} always sold out first and foremost. Now everything seems to have gotten on that 'GLUTEN FREE' train and that's what lots of bake sale items are offering! lol, yeah, gluten free, but when it comes to tasty treats, what's the point? Do you know whether you used buttermilk or plain milk in the rolls? |

I used to run to Rebecca Rather's bakery in Fredricksburg before the jailhouse cinnamon rolls ran out. We tried making them from her cookbook "Rather Sweet" and they turned out just as good! There is nothing else quite like the super soft potato based pastry and the ton of pecans.

Well I would just like something that is absolutely what it is labeled to be. No extra ingredients or hidden ingredients that would make some of us REALLY SICK.
My more recent struggles with and allergic grandchild sure has brought home the need for alternatives like glutin free, nut free, and some of the sugar substitutes. I would give a kings ransom for more alternatives than the fat and wheat flour stuff. Even my surgeon says many of the tropical oils are directly related to the explosion of gall bladder and kidney stones so many suffer from. Or the real problem for more than less of American's too much sugar and salt on everything. Sometimes less is definitely more. Especially present in commercially prepared food and Farmer's Market's are the "ingredients" that should not be there; like hair, bugs, pesticides, or melted plastic, and labeling glue. I never trust a server that doesn't have their hair covered and a clean apron on. Or their pet dog laying in the back of the delivery truck while they are set up. Nasty over used handlers gloves is another pet peeve of mine. On the side of vendors I think if the city is going to benefit from the Farm to Fork thing so many want to promote I think they need to require they provide vendors clean bathrooms, washing facilities, and even cooling stations where heat makes life miserable. And crack down of people who shop lift and harass vendors. I think a "You touch it You buy it!" policy is fair. I have seen people steal from the trucks and vendors work inhumane hours and think it is despicable for people to expect to get it for nothing compared to the horrendouse prices in markets that have buying power to generate low expenses and massive profits. |

Oh PS. Smaller portions. Many of us that shop Farmer's market don't have a whole tribe of people at home and will come every week if we can buy small portions. Instead of so many Monster muffins and three pound loves of bread try the smaller sizes or allow people to buy a mixed tray sold by the ounce of bread slices. Our senior community center does that and it is very popular selling a mix of bread slices so you have a variety of sandwich options without halves or better of moldy bread loaves being wasted. The whole grain breads are very popular as are the veggie or fruit breads.

Cinnamon Rolls have worked in this fashion, especially the mini's. Cupcakes (if I can get a successful run at catering) are definitely eat it now food. Cookies........ah well that's where you can make some big sales, for people who are having get-togethers, parties or office meetings. On the previous comment Pacifier made, our farmers market is often looked over by Health Dept. Officials so yes, here in Iowa we do practice good health standards Now, as to sicking your Grandma on me TooOld............I usually put my own twist on my recipe's as not to copy someone else's unless it will truly compromise the taste. So, my apologies to your Grandma and my Mom while I'm at it |

can't go wrong with giant cinnamon buns.... with or without raisins..
lots of cream cheese icing...mmmm.. .. that and maybe some kind of specialty coffee...ohhh. ice cold milk..mmmm.. yep . winner winner chicken dinner...... call it( got cin buns).lol |
