My friend asked me to post on here a question she would love to know the answer to. She asked, Why do really ugly men even think they have a chance with a beautiful woman? She always says, you must be mental to even think you stood a chance. Personally I find this cruel. But I told her I would ask, so here goes. PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS NOT MY QUESTION, ITS A FRIENDS I've never seen or heard a truly beautiful woman ask such a question. You would if you met her |

No she doesn't, but she would think she does. And she would be wrong...the subject of beauty fascinates me, because I find that it is very subjective and varies greatly depending on environment. I've traveled a bit in the Navy, Kuala Lampur, Singapore, Panama, Hong Kong, and I've been all over the U.S. as well. What I find interesting is for example, in Panama, ever women I saw was a EXTREMELY good looking, but the locals there thought most of the women were "average" while saying how good looking some of my fellow sailors were...whom i considered to be either "average" or even "below average". I think that's when i realized that beauty is can only be judged the pool that you're used to. I've met a few people who think like your friend, fortunately most refrain from saying it directly to you, but not all, and personally i do enjoy knocking people off of their "high horse". Here's an example, and it may make me seem like an a $ $, but so be it. For the last few years i've lived in San Diego, where it seems the "exceptionally good looking" is really more of a the norm, than the exception. It's just something that you get used to. Well I went up to Washington to visit my friends and family and we were at a small bar shooting pool when one of my friends was getting a little out of hand and pretty forcefully hitting on a group of girls who were obviously not interested and really didn't seem like they wanted to be bothered by anyone. I went over to get him, and started to apologize to the women for his behavior and one of the girls...obviously one who that she was attractive stated "I'm not interested don't bother hitting on me too.." or something to that affect, and very rudely as well. Thing was I didn't plan on hitting on her at all, and told her truthfully "Trust me, i'm not interested i'm from San Diego...and you're about 4 there...maybe a 5 if you really tried.. " Which was totally honest. Then I walked away with my friend. Point is, what one person thinks is beautiful, another person may find unattractive....you can't judge all beauty by the same stick...but you can character |

I agree I like it when a woman just doesn't realize how pretty she is, it somehow makes her even prettier |

Dunning–Kruger Effect: Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect
The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias wherein unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly assessing their ability to be much higher than is accurate. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their ineptitude. Conversely, highly skilled individuals tend to underestimate their relative competence, erroneously assuming that tasks which are easy for them are also easy for others.[citation needed] As David Dunning and Justin Kruger of Cornell University conclude: "The miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others."[1] * Basically the Dunning-Kruer Effect outlines an individual suffering from a sad inability to ascertain, any true, honest, or objective perception of "Self". I.E. "Most azzhol#es do not see that they are azzhol#es" ;} |

Not worth your efforts or anyone else. I don't know why you would consider someone like that a friend. She's too absorbed in herself to care about anyone but herself. |

I said she was a friend because I felt to embaressed to admit she's actually a cousin, so not so easy to get rid of, else I would have. I'm not proud to have a relative like this. I wouldn't be her friend, I wouldn't choose someone like her. But family your stuck with :-( |

Sometimes it's nice to prove that, while men are always thought to be superficial and shallow, sometimes women are far worse offenders. In fact, every single time a woman rejected me, sometimes after knowing what kind of person I am, it has always been because I'm "perfect" and she wants someone exactly like me, but she didn't like the packaging. Yet, had I been the one who had rejected them on looks alone, what would have been said about me? Honestly, as much as I try to be a nice guy, I would love to meet your friend just so I could shoot her down, even if she is absolutely gorgeous, based solely on her looks.
