If I weren't so old and wise, I would still believe anything is possible.

Well, this wasnt my first dating site, I was on local sites before, because I wanted to meet someone local. And I met, sometimes just 1-2 dates - its enough to find out if you can be with someone. Or 4 months, but it didnt work out. So I thought maybe if I broaden my search on Europe, somewhere near, it would give more chances to find someone compatibile. Well, I met someone from Norway, not near but still achievable, but it was a Nigerian scammer noway And now I would love to meet with someone, but hes on the other side of the world - impossible for me unless I win a lottery

I think it would be a huge coincidence, if we found our actual match (and thats what some of us are really looking for) locally.

I have met a few gentlemen locally (within an hours drive) and they were nice, but no chemistry. If I were willing to just settle for someone who would kill time with me, I think some if not all of these men would have done so. That idea makes me cringe however. There are people with vastly different ideas of what they want on here. If you want to just go thru the motions, you can get that locally.

Then there are we other freaks. We dont like goin thru the motions. We are lookin for something special, ....magic, love.

I have come close to that, only from long distance, so far.

good luck on findin whatever it is you want.

I only date locally and I'm not just going through the motions.
. What's wrong with socialising in the real world in your own locality and meeting someone that way? Sure, there are amazing coincidences and looking at it like that is romantic and not cynical or pessimistic. You sound like you're making excuses, or don't really want to actually meet anybody. Especially if they aren't outside of your comfort zone.

As for the seven emails a day thing, I think that I prefer the meeting up face to face once or twice a week thing when I'm getting to know somebody.

So, a while back I met a girl without even seeing a picture first or chatting on line or telephone and my first thought was, "Wow, she's exactly what I'm looking for". It can happen and frankly, trying to chat with women online is crap compared to in person. Maybe that's just me though because I'm an honest person and speak my mind, rather than worrying that I'm going to put some person on the internet off by saying things that wouldn't bother them if I said them to their face.

There should be a rule to prevent women from abusing dating sites. Too many only use them to tease and waste time. People say be patient but I say to hell with that. We only get one life and after that we're dead forever so let's all have as much fun as we possibly can. The ancient Greeks knew how to live:- sex orgies in public places, and lots of good wine to drink, none of this vinegary stuff that we get today.

I think I've managed to get 3 responses in before someone got bored of me. That's my high score (on a different site). Oh, and a Facebook friend that's pretty darned anti social.

Honestly, online dating has made me even more lonely than when I didn't even care. It's good social training and has encouraged me to keep up my self improvement though.

I am convinced I am the only Mingle 2 member in Oaxaca maybe even Mexico. Several years ago I think I was on Mingle, in Arizona and met someone but I already knew him so I don't think that really counts. I still can't find that account, who knows maybe Red has clicked on it a dozen times. 25 years ago I was on a site very similar to this one, basic inbox, forums and profiles that could be matched. You filled out a very detailed questionnaire and then had a matched percentage with each member, I had one 99 percent match and we lived 30 miles from each other. We met and spent 10 years together, I still consider him the love of my life and soul-mate. So I know firsthand it can work, but that was a different time and place, and would I go through it all again, the jury is out. The real world has proven to be about as successful. I've met a great guy here locally, and we have formed a wonderful friendship, but I am afraid he probably likes boys and I have been friend-zoned. You can't have everything and a friend is a friend. Happy Hunting!

I find that the people I click and are best friends with from Minglers are all half a world away. The only local/fellow country folks I know from here are actually not that local, in the sense that they are in different states and many hours away (except Mekay flowerforyou).

I have yet to meet anyone from here.... but am looking forward to my first meeting with a local Mingler, who is 2 hours away by flight, in the coming new year. Being friends is always the best start to anything....... it you can't be friends, than it can't lead to anything else.
