People say they love the circus...but I am beginning to doubt that...
Being a mardi gras, festival, and circus all rolled into one...seems to have created a barrier rather than a doorway.. |

could not sleep so started to read posts. I like to think I am more outgoing in real life than online, especially the forums. There are times I would have liked to cut loose, but I held back for fear of making an azz out of myself, so I just read and laugh out loud alone

Do you pay my rent/mortgage???? then if not why do you care??? I feel the same in real life as I do here....... |

we need to be who we are all the time and in every place
if we are not, we are not just lying to other people, but to oursleves as well. and that is sad |

YES LETS BE REAL PPL!!!!!!!!!

|
|
|
being real is the best thing we can do
sadly too few of us are able to do that |
|

Perhaps Miguel....
There are those who prefer the richness of what they believe themselves to be, rather than who they are. And there are those who are authentic, and do show themselves for themselves, and still, seem less in realtime, isn't that the veiwers responsibility? The person that has decided another is more, because they want them to be more? The only deception is to self, for when the time of meeting comes about...they are the ones who let themselves down, the deceiver, either or. |

“Do you believe the way people act online reflects how they will be in real life?” I think in some cases it’s obvious. And in other cases it’s hard to tell. One thing that I am vividly aware of is that I have a lot of people misunderstand me, both on forums, and in emails. Whereas this almost never happens in person. One very clear difference for me personally, is that on the Internet the ONLY way I can interact is by saying something. If I don’t type words, I don’t post, and if I don’t post I’m unseen, unheard, unknown. In real life, I seldom talk. I’m more of a doer. I’d rather be doing something than sitting around BSing. When I do have conversations it’s usually with similar-minded people. I typically don’t hang around with people who hold vastly different views them me. I’m not a social animal. I’m a homebody and a doer. On the forums I’m constantly running into people who have vastly differnet views than mine. I offer my views, they offer theirs, and what usually ends up happening is that we keep bumping into each other over and over and over again. This is especially true if I’ve voiced an opinion that drastically differs with someone else's. On an Internet forum you can’t just get up and walk to another section of the room because there are no “other sections” of the room. In other words, whoever is disagreeing with you is going to continue to follow you around challenging your posts. So you’re kind of forced into either standing behind your view or quit posting altogether. In real life, you just move away from the people you aren’t interested in talking with. So you can’t really compare how people behave online with how they might be in real life. I tend to hang out in the religious forums here simply because I’m interested in the philosophy of humanity and the religion forum comes closest to that. However, in real life, I almost never talk about religion unless someone else brings it up. So someone who sees me posting day after day in the religion forum might think, “Hmmm? He must do that all day in real life too”. But nothing could be further from the truth! In real life I’m a doer. And you just can’t “do” things on a forum but talk. So it’s virtually impossible for people to see who I really am via an Internet forum. It’s just not possible. |

and it's sad lee because when there are these changes in personality from what somebody is here, and what that person is in a face to face encounter, can hurt deeply the other person.
