you can definitely relate then.. my realization was that I had to (and at times still do lol) respect my limitations and NOT get frustrated by the inability to advance faster than my body allowed, I had to let it work in conjunction with my mind to overcome what the doctors kept telling me I COULDN'T do.. a form of mental reconditioning if you will on my part to alter the trusted influence a medical practitioner usually has over us.. I've always eaten healthy and exercised daily, nothing strenuous mind you like going through a gym workout.. just enough to maintain a healthy balance.. however I don't believe we're alone in not wanting to get older LOL.. I'm a toys r us kid too but know WHEN to be serious! maybe instead of explaining.. you could simply shrug your shoulders and say.. go ask THEM?? regardless of age, I've never had that question asked... perhaps because I surround myself with like minded people..?? that the thought doesn't seem to be of any importance to them? couldn't say.. but assume that because of your career, you come across a vaster variety of people on a daily basis, than I do.. my accident kinda caused my life to take a direction other then the one I was planning! I adapted, out of necessity, and had to reinvent myself by creating my own job, working from home.. so I don't have the 'social aspect' at work as most do! how fortunate are we though, to have the freedoms and rights one has to dictate our own lives and not allow society to do that for us.. whilst some countries dictate every aspect of their own citizens! Guess I was just lucky to be born in the country I was!! anywho.. I agree that our behavior can affect others.. I simply put my OWN self out there and others decided if they like me or not.. I can't control how others choose to perceive me.. nor will I hold back, what I feel, is the BEST me Hmm,I get where you are coming from. When it comes to complete strangers; I am not overly concerned how others perceive me. Where I am concerned is my family, good friends, the parents of the kids I teach, how the military sees me; or how the police see me as their employee. My friends ask me about these people because they are clearly making fools of themselves. I just say its mid-life crisis which really does make people do some very stupid things. Those are the ones that my behaviour affects. You are right though that we indeed are lucky to live in a country that lets us be who we are for the most part but on a more personal level; I still struggle to be accpeted as I am, to be treated as an equal by men. |

I look at like who cares people are going to talk either way. I feel my ability to deal with life problems has improved with age but that does not mean I can't be myself or still have dreams that I want to conquer.Your a lovely women follow your heart, you only have one life, live free!

I'm nearly 30 and I totally had a bounce house race last year with my friend in complete darkness for taco prizes in the tennis court of an apartment complex I wasn't supposed to be staying at. Joy is joy. |

I am going to say both ... I don't really like acting my age it makes me to serious... and that is very harmful for me ... but do know how the times flies and some is just out of your control and just let it go ... and my personality kinda likes funny stuff ... least funny to me ... so both and depends on the day ... I for some reason like men in their thirties and older ... more ... but date someone in their thirty ...don't think so but love talking to them ... some are very intelligent ...

I think this sums up what I was trying to say.
http://www.newswise.com/articles/for-baby-boomers-denying-aging-can-have-psychological-repercussions Its one of many interesting articles about people our age denying aging and this is why my younger friends are asking about why we are not acting our age. |

Great question Zee ...This is how it works for me... When I was a teenager I acted my age because my dad insisted... When I hit my 20's I acted my age because I was a single mother with a chit load of responsibility... During my 30's I played catchup for the mistakes I made during my 20's... In my 40's and 50's I perfected my career, tripled my earning power and learned to love myself... Now I feel like this....Because I earned it, my remaining years are my to enjoy and live in a way that pleases me, not society.... |

"Dont ever let fear turn you against your playful heart" Jim Carrey besides, it shouldnt be "Age is just a number"...it should be "I am not just a number" cool quote |

I think I will be using " I'm old enough to know better and young enough not to care." For the rest of my life.

Humm well since I have no idea what a 56 year old woman is suppose to act like since it is the first time I have seen 56, who knows if I act as those my age does or not. But... then I really don't care..
I'm me I know I do not act like many my age... My kids are grown I'm single.. I go out with friends and have fun.. I don't party as much as I did when I was younger.. But when I do I have fun at it.. I went trick or treating this year with my daughter and grand babies and yes I dressed up as well.. I have went scuba diving and para-sailing since I hit my 50's plus two cruises.. My nieces and nephews all think Aunt Kristi is fun to be around... I say be yourself who cares as long as your having fun that is all that matters... |

I would think even moreso being in the armed forces.. lotsa 'old way of thinking' still going on.. |
