The way I see it, we really don't know the Ebola virus can do. First it wasn't airborne, now it "could" be. There is no FDA approved vaccine for it and the incubation period is between 2 and 21 days? I would say from the we have no idea what we're dealing with. Let's shut down the flights to countries where there are infections, so as not to risk bringing it here anymore than it is. The president said it would devastate their economies but is it better to put American lives at risk? Economies can recover, 70% of people don't from Ebola.

Pretty sure the problem with the potential to spread Ebola doesn't come from the flights TO infected areas...it's the ones FROM infected areas.
I believe that is one of the CDC's recommendations: don't let flights IN to our country. Tricky thing telling a people who believe in the freedoms their country affords them about where they can and can not go... |

I agree, very tricky thing. ^^^^
Not only from the particular areas, but anyone flying in from anywhere else who is from or traveled to the afflicted areas? Por ejemplo, lives in Sierra Leone, traveled to Spain, then to the U.S., no matter when the flights were booked? So, hypothetically this: "So sorry, sir/madam, but, we need to quarantine you and your party for the next 22 days, due to your recent travel to areas afflicted by the Ebola virus. Please follow the man in the blue rubber suit to your accommodations, Isolation Ward 9. Again, you have our sincerest apologies and enjoy your visit to The United States." 42. That's how many days need to pass without a new infection, before it's considered "clear". Two consecutive incubation periods without a new infection, seems simple enough, right? Where/when does the fear for our safety surpass our rights? The rights we afford others? Where/when does it stop? Is it better to trample the freedoms (that we hold so dear) of the afflicted few, or risk exposure to this exotic unknown to our huddled masses? What happens when the next super flu comes? I'm thinkin' fine line-slippery slope kinda things. Never underestimate the stupidity of people in large groups, more so, if they are scared. Conditioned response, or responding to conditions? |

I know exactly who I'd like to be quarantined with. Think about it.
*fook* those planes domestically. eta: watch those gasoline prices drop even farther now. |

op they can get around the flights ...thats the issue when shutting them down ... they say we at least get more info now about the people coming and going but they can by pass all of that by going to another country where they do not take precautions yet and an believe they should be the ones shut down flights ...if they do not take the right precautions before letting them come in from there countries and we never know if ... and in the mean time trying to stabilize the disease in its original place ... for the sake of the rest of the world too... I believe the air born part can come from coughing and sneezing and kissing & not washing your hands or having good hygiene ... and I heard the incubation time was less then 21 days ... but can't be sure ...
