Topic: Am I The Only One..... | |
---|---|
Am I the only one who gets really bothered by profiles that say things like "want to know more, just ask" or "I hate talking about myself" and those are the only lines they have in the profile. Or what about their instead of there, or whose instead of who's and ur instead of you are or your. Or just words not written correctly that a First grader can do better. Does this bug anyone else besides me? I mean, I can understand a typo here and there. But really, some words have no excuse for being spelled wrong. Nothing bothers me more then getting a mail from someone that says Hi Their, nice smile, how r u? Please I took the time to write a nice profile, please (not plz) take the time to write me a nice letter. Is that so much to ask? Or to those that wonder why they are not getting any action on the profile they have, this could be why.
Ok, rant over...steps off soapbox. Chrys |

I like to read about people in there profiles too...
A little info is better than nothing. As for spelling- well sometimes I do not do so well myself. |

I am a firm believer in the teachings of lexism. And I feel he has made the best etiquette rules on profiles. Butg what do I know? I'm nuts.

i agree with what you are saying about profiles however i dont agree with spelling. some people cant spell very good and they use shorthanded phrases. i on the other hand can spell great but i like to use shorthanded phrases like ur, wrk ,thnx. i mean come on why is that so bad. lighten up a little it's not nice to go off about something like that. if you are going to go off, stick to your first phrase about the profiles. the other is not that big of a deal.

Irish -- I have posted about this very thing more than once in the past -- and here is a snip from my current profile that deals with this subject:
======================================================= Toying with the idea of eliminating all the information in the profile, and going with one of those idiotic "If you want to know anything about me, you'll have to ask" lines, like the unceasing stream of lazy people I keep seeing on the Mutual Match selections. I mean, how hard is it to type 5 or 6 lines about yourself? One of the things I was taught while studying psychology was that MOST people's favorite subject is THEMSELVES (which sort of makes sense, because -- by default, really -- that is the ONE subject they know the most about, and the one they SHOULD know better than anyone else, although that's not always the case), so why is it difficult to come up with a couple hundred words about oneself? |
