Me and My Pal, Ol' Neddy ( An Irish Donkey )
Today, Mon. June 23rd, 2014 - noon, I drove over to an elderly gents house to check on his donkey. Apparently his donkey, ' Ol' Neddy ' had a problem with his left rear hoof. I'm told ol' Neddy had something stuck up deep in the pad of his hoof which was causing the poor fella some temporary lameness. So, Colm, my landlord and I, decided to drive over for a visit. Once there we noticed Ol' Needy's problem and set him up an epsom salts bath. We also scraped out the debri in his hoof. We soaked his hoof twice over the course of two hours. Ol' Neddy put up well with our efforts only trying occasionally to kick us as we locked into his rear left leg. Now, the ol' chap seems to be doin' better. Neddy's walking around and raising havoc once again, although with a noticeable limp. He will require more soaks so we plan on revisiting and soaking his hoof again off and on - all next week. He should be fine. Otherwise it'll be a vet visit for Ol' Neddy. Neddy's now 7 human years old. Thom Douglas Carlisle ( Irish Tommy Moran ) - Ireland === === === === === === === === === |

Please, I hope this light jaunt is accepted in this forum. I know it isn't poetry related rather something I did on this day for the sake of an animal, but I thought others might appreciate the viewing and message. I thank you! tommy boy moran / Ireland === |

Story writing, That is what I thought this forum was all about. That is a wonderful story. I love the pictures.
It looks like Ol' Neddy is in fine hands and should have a speedy recovery with a couple more soaks. Perhaps, we will see more stories being told by folks. I would like that. I would like to think we all have a story to share. |

teasing,
Thank you so much for your acceptance of this add-on. As always, you and your full worth here in this forum are deeply appreciated. I respect you very much. === akita, You're so especially fine. You've hit it right on the nail head in that it does seem to be worthy content here inside the realm of Poets. Here in this slender forum. Thank you, akita. I'm so glad you enjoyed the level reality of this topic. Factually, ol' Neddy was a bit in poor shape when Colm and I first arrived. He was laying down in his stall and we had to coax him to his feet and walk him out. His limp was quite pronounced. We studied him a bit and thought first to scrape out his left rear hoof. Pebbles and generally other debri were found housed there. We, as previously mentioned, then began to soak with epsom salts and lukewarm water. Neddy rejected hot water and 'kicked like a mule' as ye might imagine. Anyway, brief minutes after the first soak, ol' Neddy began to perk up a bit. He began walking again. We left him at it for about an hour and went back in for yet another soak. Again, afterwards, Neddy seemed to show signs of recuperating. At one point upon the second soak, ol' Neddy saw the bucket and must've momentarily relived his discourse over the first soak and took off running out across the field. We had to catch him. Imagine a somewhat lame donkey hobbling across a field at full tilt. We laughed even though ol' Neddy was experiencing noticeable discomfort as he fled from us. Well, once we had him in hand, once again, we gave him his number two soak. And again, he seemed to be a slight more perky after that one. He was grazing and doin' fine. Still in marked pain, but better. Thereafter, prior to our leaving in our cars, ol' Neddy seemed to be feeling much better. The elder owner was very appreciative of our visit and we all planned on doing it all over again, and again, next week until ol' Neddy was back fully on his rear hoofs. * So, please, folks, allow this to be a more refined update as to how things went yesterday, Mon. June 23rd, 2014 - noon. == Up2Us, May I thank you for your comments? Thanks for joining in on this topic. I'm so glad ye enjoyed the pics and story. Great story! In my minds eye I see you and Colm trying to catch a donkey who wasn't sure about the two of you.
I can imagine you and Colm laughing in amusement as Neddy limps from you across the field, most likely to the far side, then turns to look at the two of you. It sounds like there may even be a story to be told about Neddy's elderly owner. I have a couple stories about a mule named Precious that has been a source of amusement and joy to me. Perhaps, that is what I will do. Nothing I like better than listening to a good story. |

mo, I'd love to hear about Precious. No doubt an equine bombshell in her own right. ( lol ) Anyway, thank you, mo. Love hearing from you.

Tommy, everyone has a story. Maybe, more folks will come forward to write about everyday experiences. Since this a forum for creative writing I would like to see that.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful story. I will look forward to hearing more about ol' Neddy. |

turtlebug,
( Love the 'nic' by the way, ) thank ye for your comments. I do appreciate hearing from you. You also visited my page here in Mingle2 recently. Thanks for taking the time, turt. mo, Thank ye, mo. Will try to make at least a final update on Ol' Neddy. As it stands I think he may require a vet and perhaps penicillin for that swelling. It may be an infection inside the ankle - I don't know. We'll give Neddy another soak and see how good, or bad he's coming along. Anyway, turt and mo, thank ye both. tomo / " The Island " |
