Topic: Finishing a relationship | |

After 14 years, I am finishing a relationship.
She's forcing my hand and I have an appointment with a lawyer in June. Have to be the first to file, so she'll have to drive three hours for court. I'll also be setting the bar on division of property . Anyone else in the process of finalizing a failed marriage? |

Nope...but years ago, when my ex & I divorced, we went out of our way to be civil & make the process as easy as possible. Too bad most divorces are filled with anger & butt hurt...such a waste of time.

After 3 years separated and three hours travel distance, she came back here a month ago.
After the first day, we/I, realized it was a huge mistake. Her Dad has been invalid for 2 weeks now. She is moving him back north with her. She has no income and will be living off his money. Most of his money will be tied up in real estate problems. But, she will have a house to sell when it's done. I'll make sure my attorney makes our real estate split one a judge would approve. Number four is out the door and number five is really live. |

Sounds more like business law than marriage court, your laws on divorce must be mediaeval over there O-O
Without prenups, everything before is yours if it was yours and hers if it was hers, everything since split right down the middle, here. Easy, a truth. When you feel inequality in that instance it's about your attitude and not truths. If she's been a lump and you made a big business since you've been together and that makes you feel an inequality, it was poor decision making on your part getting married with someone you didn't like so much for who they are. It's a lesson, get to know them better next time and wear it either way. Too many roosters in the hen house in america. |

I have been referred to a great attorney here.
And, she's female. Gotta make sure I don't piss her off. Gonna thank her at every opportunity. I will also bring my cane and oxygen bottle. Milk it, baby! Note to self. Don't say broad when speaking to her about women. Wouldn't sit well, I'm thinking. Just teasing. I know women are allowed to practice law. |

Well in the State of Texas it is a 50/50 split if it is fought for... All depends what each one wants or if they just want out of the marriage....

I'll be gambling, she won't have the funds to afford an attorney and legal aid won't touch it. There's also the possibility, in her anger, she will destroy property, I'd press charges and she'd get her VISA pulled and deported. |
