Which one do you prefer? I have never been to a resort ,but I have been on cruises and loved them.
If you had your choice which one would you pick and why.

I would love to spend a few weeks at the Breakers in Palm Beach....wiht enuff cash to have fun :)

Believe it or not I never heard of that place so I googled it. The reviews were very good. Sounds like a great place !!!

What is it you don't trust about big ships?

That was an awful ordeal you and your girls went through. I can't even imagine the terror you must have felt at the time.
I am so happy it had a happy ending.

The tendor boats we needed were in the Caribbean, to get us to the Bahamas . Mostly we never got to go because of bad weather. Also we took one to go on a submarine ride. That was really cool. I forget how far down it went in the ocean, but it went down pretty deep. We saw coral reefs, all kinds of fish and even a shark went by. I was scared a first , but I really loved it and would do it again.

I see on your profile you are from Quebec. That is another beautiful place. I went there some time back , to old Quebec.
I love the old world charm there.
We went to Chateau Frontenac. Very nice and quaint.
The restaurants had such good food too.

oddly enough.. you don't even have TIME to think.. everything happens so fast.. you just react.. but thanks.. I'm glad for the happy ending too

hey.. I went on a submarine ride as well.. Grand Cayman's coral reef.. we only got to see a lotta beautiful fish and a huge sea turtle.. nothing as terrifying as a shark though.. WOW.. it was still phenomenal.. and like you.. I'd go again, given the opportunity..

you're right about Quebec City but I'm closer to Montreal.. it's wild to know we have castles and wonders like other places in the world.. with their very old world charm.. by the way, I see we're neighbors.. you being from Ontario.. have you always lived there?

well I have been to the Breakers with my mother years ago - just for lunch...it's pretty swanky (read expensive) but it is just such beauty and luxury combined....love it typified my ideal setting.

big ships? I am a little cautious because of some of the recent strandings where passengers were for days without running water and there were big delays in getting resuce ships to them. That's the main thing.

I forgot to mention on the submarine ride we also saw a sink and toilet that the guide said was from a ship wreck. Not sure if that was for real or just put there for drama lol.

Yes I have always lived in Ontario. Right now I live about and hour or so away from Toronto.
The snow here is dreadful, some snow piles are as high as 15 ft. Causing lots of accidents.
Will winter ever end??????????????????????????????

It really does look like a nice place. I have been to Florida, mostly Miami love it there. Now you have peaked my interest in the Breakers. Hey I am not opposed to swanky lol.

It is sad what happened on those cruise ships, but like plane crashes you only here about the ones that went wrong. Not the thousands of cruises that people had a great time on. I bet if you tried one you would love it.

thats funny about the toilet and sink.. laugh ya never know with tourism today.. what they'll do to increase the "effect" laugh

sorry it took so long to respond.. been busy with mundane stuff.. ohwell

the snow here is melting.. nicely.. we've gotten a few dustings recently but nothing that stayed OR needed any real shoveling.. it's been pretty windy here though so that's why it's probably not looking like there's anything hanging around.. wow.. 15'?? man.. guess I'm dodging THAT bullet huh.. phew!!

I live in the Quebec Triangle.. which simply means we don't always get the weather everyone else gets.. just the other day I was talking to someone in Montreal who said it was snowing like CRAZY there.. and here? Total SUNSHINE!!

as for winter ending?? I don't get what everyone's complaining about.. it typically lasts until mid March or has, some years, gone right through to April.. so far.. it's been fairly SHORT considering we still were at about +15 C in December.. and I'm TOTALLY okay with 2 months of winter!! regardless.. it'll be over soon enough and then EVERYone can complain about it being TOO HOT laugh

I am very excited because in Jan 2015 I am going to have a dream come true. I will be going on my first cruise! Any advice? I have only travelled a few times in my life, so this is HUGE for me! I went to Disney World for my honeymoon and to Las Vegas with a friend. That is my resort experience.

You have been luckier than us. Its still minus 14c here . Wind chill more like minus 30. Still lots and lots of snow here. Nothing melted all that much. I think it feels so long this year because it started snowing in Oct. and has not stopped yet.
I am ready fopr another cruise lol

You lucky girl, I am so Jealous !
You will have a great time. Where are you going and what cruise line are you using?
My only advice is to make sure you have a good comfortable pair of running shoes and bring socks. I made the mistake of not doing that the first time and with all the walking I did I paid the piper big time.
Also know that your drinks are not free, so be careful about running up too big of a tab.
Another thing is make sure you have some essentials in your carry on ,tooth paste and tooth brush and undies and stuff.
My daughter is on cruise right now, and the airline lost their luggage. They just got it yesterday since Sat. So anything you really need have with you as much as possible.

what she said ^^ bigsmile however I've not been unfortunate at loosing my luggage in my travels.. I ALWAYS put as much stuff as I can in my carry-on.. all the essentials necessary, esPECIALLY the sneakers! I bring one of everything (including an evening gown that I get the ship to iron and 2prs of socks & undies/bras) and toiletries..
another good idea (I've found) is researching your port of calls beFORE you go.. this way you'll know what you're in for and what you most want to explore.. check out the areas too for "social climates".. that's why in Egypt, Dom. Rep & Jamaica I opted for the 'ship' excursion while in the other ports of call I visited, we went off on our own.. knowing in advance took lots of worry outta the equation AND made for a MUCH better vacation experience (except for the Egypt ordeal.. nothing seemed to avoid THAT surprise laugh)

I don't have air, but mostly I am ok down in my rec room. Its usually cooler there.

I am anxious to hear how my Daughter made out with her cruise. She did email me to say they got their luggage back, it was waiting for them in Jamaica. Five days without luggage. The worst thing is her BF had his insulin on an ice pack in his suitcase and his work lap top.
Leaving his meds in the suitcase was not a bright idea. I am hoping the ship's Doctor could have helped him out with that.

I'm sure they would have helped with his lack of insulin.. they're usually equipped for ANYthing..

being you're allowed 1 carry-on, a lap-top and a purse (for women) I usually carry my lap-top with me.. going through those big scanner/x-ray machines at the airports COULD cause damage to the hard-drive.. it's best to keep it on your person.. I'm sure next time though.. they'll be toting the necessary things ON them laugh live 'n learn huh

oh and... I'm thinking, if I can manage it, to retire on a cruise ship (or with their line and just jump ship to ship) and see the WORLD!! now wouldn't THAT be somethin

Oh man that would be something!
Got an email from my daughter today. she is so mad right now. This time they went with Carnival Cruise and booked all their excursions with them. Well today she went and swam with the STINGRAYS , from there they were suppose to go to some place with a bunch of turtles. The bus driver was suppose to take them there after their swim with the stingrays. She got her wires crossed and left after she dropped them off, leaving a whole bus load of people stranded.
Needless to say there was a whole bunch of angry people.
This trip has not been a good one for them lol

that sucks for your daughter.. but I'm sure they'll see now that Carnival is NOT the "great escape" they make it out to be OR best prices OR service either..

NCL wasn't like that.. in Jamaica our bus broke down and in 15 mins there was another arriving to take us AND we continued on with our outing (and our guide was fantastic at watching our backs there, keeping us outta harms way).. plus when we got back to the ship in Egypt (after our ordeal) they added quite a few extras to compensate, including both my daughters and I each received gold/pearl bracelets AND they gave me a 1 karat blue topaz & 18k white gold chain(I mounted the stone when we got back cuz they didn't have that service on the ship) plus a few extra 100$$ in on board credits, free drinks, $$ for the casino.. etc.. now THAT is SERVICE!! and why I'll ALWAYS choose NCL over any other line.. I guess they appreciate repeat clients (even though it wasn't my first NCL trip).. bigsmile

I agree about NCL, its the only cruise line I have ever used. I never got any free jewellery though lol.
My daughter and her BF booked this trip as a last minute thing, cheapest way they could go. They found out after it was booked that there cabin was in the first floor at the back of the ship. Worst place on a ship . But they figured how long are you really in your cabin. I have not heard any complaints about that yet, so I will let you know when they get back on Sunday.
I am sure people have gone with Carnival and had no problems, but I am sticking with NCL.

maybe because you've never had your kids involved in an attempted kidnapping either on THEIR watch laugh

I book directly thru NCL.. this way.. I get the room I want on the floor I want.. maybe it helps too that I'm a handicap?? all I know is.. I get in touch with my personal NCL agent and he does his magic and I'M a happy camper! bigsmile

I'm sure there are some that have enjoyed Carnival without problems.. but man.. they sure have been having a LOT lately.. and with all the hype, not helping their status.. at least not with me OR anyone I know.. and of course I promote NCL over others.. who wouldn't once you've traveled with 'em huh
