Ooh, a real boost in confidence by a proclaimed Dodo.

do·do
noun \ˈdō-(ˌ)dō\

a : an extinct heavy flightless bird (Raphus cucullatus syn. Didus ineptus of the family Raphidae) of the island of Mauritius that was larger than a turkey and was related to the pigeon
b : an extinct flightless bird (Raphus solitarius) of the island of Réunion similar to and closely related to the dodo
2
a : one hopelessly behind the times
b : a stupid person

So you're not a bird, they have been declared extinct so what exactly do you mean?

Uh, why are you using ad hominem?

The accuracy of my statements isn't determined by my username.

For what it's worth, the name Dodo is a personal Hebrew name found in the Old Testament. The KJV Old Testament Hebrew Lexicon gives the following definition of Dodo:

Dodo = "his beloved"
a man of the tribe of Issachar
a man of Bethlehem, father of Elhanan who was one of David's 30 captains
an Ahohite, father of Eleazar, the second of the 3 mighty men who were over the 30

Now, we return to the topic of this thread's OP.

It may get locked but I will risk it

this is the most condescending ******** of any I have read

actually, mr PEDANTIC,, there is no continent called AMERICA

the continent would be THE AMERICAS

of which there are three

but in this thread , we have been using AMERICAN to refer to citizens of the US,, so lets not try to switch it up to try to appear like some superior intellect,,

those illegal immigrants are still 'american' by this preposterous new argument

yeah, its wrongly used by people including YOURSELF, but lets keep it consistent when we do choose to use it and not act ignorant of the context of its use in a thread,,,

I belong here as much as anyone here with a behind to sit on and an opinion,,,,,,

Really, so you persist in being wrong:

http://www.usaisnotamerica.com/index.php

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/a_fine_whine/2013/08/america_the_continent_vs_america_the_country.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americas

And I saved wiki for last because without collaboration it is doubtful as a source.

And no I have been stating that Mexicans, Brazilians and others are all Americans. And while I am an American from The Americas continent, my true being is a citizen of these united States of which you and so many others do not belong.

And no there are not three Americas but depending upon your location their are either one or two depending on whether you accept the division of north and south by the Panama Canal. But being it is man made, I subscribe to but one, divided into three regions and the Caribbean to be correct, I know something you so try to avoid.

But the main topic of this thread is Africa and there is no Africa in The Americas, despite what you are trying to claim.

Really, I don't think so. Just to be sure, Odumbo is a tyrant and ill qualified to be where he is. And of course using facts, you would agree with that, wouldn't you?

there is no CONTINENT called 'America'

America, as it is being discussed in this thread and the dozens of others being participated in has been used in the CONTEXT of US citizens,,,

there is a SOUTH'america', a NORTH America, and a region called Central America,, which by my count is three 'americas'

the rest is a lame attempt at baiting and switching and distracting from the issue of how often people compare apples and oranges by comparing CONTINENTS to COUNTRIES,,,

I belong here based upon SEVEN GENERATIONS Of ancestors born here and contributing to the SOCIETY,,,,

perhaps, by birthright, even more so than many others who would desire I just 'know' my place,,,,

Nope, I looked in Black's Law and it has no legal significance so I guess Webster's will have to do.

Again, it is not I that subscribed the name, just the definition.

Yes, the topic of the OP is the violence taking place on the continent of Africa, and if everyone had stayed on topic, then this thread would not now contain so much bickering.

Yet, someone just had to use the OP as an excuse to rant against Americans who prefer to call themselves "African-Americans". Such ranting reminds me of an act of racism.

After all, Italian-Americans display their ancestral pride on Columbus Day, Irish-Americans display ancestral pride on St. Patrick's Day. German-Americans display their ancestral pride during Oktoberfest. Scottish-Americans display their ancestral pride on National Tartan Day (USA).

So, black Americans have an equal right to display their ancestral pride by calling themselves "African-Americans".

For the record, I use to be opposed to black Americans calling themselves "African-Americans", but I have changed my mind. Now, I see no harm in them doing so.

There is no Central American continent except from wiki which is refuted by many sources including wiki itself.

And you belong where, Africa. You are still not a citizen of these united States.

my passport and birth certificate say different,,lol

Im many things

nationality is American, because I was born in a nation called the United States of American

race is AFrican American, because ancestrally my roots were in Africa

the point is , African American is a label that some people choose to keep the tie to their heritage in a country that for CENTURIES did not allow them to do so, OR to be 'fully american'

Not really, African American is a label that people choose to keep the racial tension at the forefront. It is used to falsely promote inequality with you being one of it's staunches promoters, at least on this forum.

I disagree with you . . . and yet I can honestly say I appreciate your viewpoint. Being called an African American does not in any way denotes a desire to continue racism but rather allows those who choose to call themselves that to have some semblance of self. If all that you are was taken from you and then you and your children and your children's children must live without any knowledge of your history then you will always be missing something. But them moment you can identify with your past you have something to hold onto. Trust me when I say that African American is not a title that will last the forever but it is the end of the civil rights era. In due time, maybe not in our lifetime but soon enough, we will all be Americans. But you have to give time to expression for it is how we become free.

Hey it was the OP's post and she wanted to go this direction which would be her right. Actually her only "right" in the whole post.

So you used to be bigoted in opposing but now you are bigoted by endorsing. What next, will you too claim that Africa is in America?

And the blacks have their day on Martin Luther King day where they get to celebrate being a citizen of equal stature. Now Dr. King was a Republican and devout supporter of equal rights according to this countries constitution.

So why do so many want to tarnish what that great man died to advance?

I agree, language changes with time and circumstance

I mean 'soccer' turned into 'football',,,lol

I appreciate the neutral post too, this thread was not about the use of racial terms,,

Adults, while appearing to be grown up, some here are not adults and still lean on childish tactics. Of course this is going to be misconstrued, but that is the fun of it.

Spreading a little honey sure does catch them flies.
