The Book Upon the Shelf.
The Book upon the shelf was open I took it down to read I saw the words upon the page Were something meant for me The words reminiscent of lovers long ago These men I'd loved and cherished These words that I could again savour The type that I would relish But not this book upon this shelf This one was carefully placed To catch this readers eye you see This book was written in haste The words of things from days gone past Of a 'lover' and I no longer Those words I read were meant to harm But I'm made of something stronger Are the words we write in private Not for others to see Or to be written in rhyming couplets 'Discretion' is not guaranteed So as with all the books I read There will be twists and turns But the prized books not on the shelf for me . . . Are the ones I've never returned An original rhyming couplet by Tulip1969 |
