I posted this in the computer section but got only two responses. I am hoping some techy out there might read this and help me...PLEASE....I am desperate!!

I have DSL, yet it takes 5 forevers for a page, any page, to load. The connection is 100 mbps. Is that a good connection? Is it my computer that is bogged down? What can I do it it is the computer? I have defrag., scanned. Have pity!!!

PS: I did go to filehippo.com and downloaded spybot search and destroy as someone suggested. It did scan my computer and found it has over 800 parasites *(threats) on it. However, when I clicked "fix" it asked me to register, which meant money. Which meant---I still have >800 parasites sucking the life's blood out of my PC! I cannot afford to pay for anything...many advertise free downloads, but then ask for money to fix the problem. Errrrrggggg~~~~~

Usually McAfee or Norton or something like that will get ride
of your bugs!

Did you delete the cookies too? That sometimes slows it down.

I have an active Norton on here. I ran a complete scan. It only found 3 problems, and said that they were low risk. I also have done the live update...

you might try Windows Defender...that is a free download...

Norton always bogged my computer down....

Spybot search and destroy is a free software.....make sure you have the right one downloaded......Also go under your internet options and there should be a place to erase your temp internet files, history and cookies. This won't always get rid of all of your cookies ....sometimes there are hiden folders. I like to use the search feature type in cookies and it should bring up all the cookie folders and files for you to empty....

Get AVG Grisoft ( free edition) it searches and destroys viruses, corrects registry entry, etc..........

sometimes if ya have to many cookies, and not enough milk, this will slow yur computer.!! lol jk

It seem's like a good connection for your DSL. One thing about Norton it takes up a lot of resouces on your computer which might slow it down.

But if your happy with it why not stick with it, or try Mcafee if you use AOL then it's totally free, heck since you have high speed internet you can get AOL for free download mcafee for free and you won't no longer have to pay for protection again.

You could try Ad-Ware SE Personal, which helps get rid of ad ware programs that might have gotten on to your pc.

Just go to download.com and type in ad-ware sc personal and it should come up and download that and that should also help.


Also if you want another product that helps your pc out with most everything try www.iobit.com

Also you might want to go to start then all programs accessories
then system tools and click on two programs like disk defragmenter and disk cleanup. These two programs will help clean up your pc and make sure it is running right.

Another idea is go to start run type in mscofig and go to startup and look and only uncheck the programs you might not want running in the back round, hit apply and restart your pc and then click check it so it doesn't come back up again at start up.

Trendmicro has a free antivirus software, it's pretty good.

don't feel bad about the slow thing I have dial up i only get about 4kbps

Also if you really want faster Internet, then you could always buy more memory, call up your DSL company and tell them you think it's not fast enough and tell them why, then they will run down a list of why that might be etc, if not then they will tell you it looks fine on there end.

use windows live one care. it has every thing u need..

k well someone at the top said it you need spybot search and destroy to remove the infection on the pc make sure u have the correct one because it is free and no register required. after u are positive that u have the correct program u need to reboot the computer and boot into safe mode once the computer has been booted into safe mode run the spybot search and destroy make sure to delete all that the scan comes up with and voila your 800 parasites will be gone then reboot the computer start it normally and you will be good. Also so u know spyware is not viruses so anti virus is uselss for removing these infections. and finally if u need any help whisper feel free to email me and i can help u out with whatever u need :) good luck!!

UPDATE: I did go to spybot, and I WAS at the wrong site. OK, color me embarrassed! So, I went to the right addy and downloaded it. I can't tell any difference, but DUH! You are right, Surebet, I have not done it in the safe mode. I will, though! What sweethearts you ALL are!

I have the one Bonnymiss recommends; It workd well. That is AVG. It is free. Or rather they have a free version which I have. It was recommended by Techtv.

I posted a web site for you to check your dsl connection, it may be your DSL provider and not your pc... do a speed test 1st and if your speed shows slow then do a tweak test. I'll be more than happy to assist you in doing this, just gimme a yell.

AVG is great...seriously try that!! I am not computer smart at all but my son is Microsoft certified. He put AVG on our new computer for us...I got a trojan on here and it told me right off!!
