Topic: Common Core Teaching Standards

The government has introduced some new standards recently into the school systems of the US called "Common Core". It became major news recently as one of the books recommended has a whole chapter on the Islamic faith but no chapters on other religions. What do you know and what do you think?

Originally, schools in the US were strictly local. Eventually, the States took over and controlled standards. The Federal Government has gradually exercised greater control to the point of overruling the States on many issues. Is local or Federal control better? What do you know about the impact of the teacher's unions?

Common Core is an NSA program..... it's nothing but pure propaganda

Snowden and Greenwald exposed it before it ever became common knowledge, and people act like it's a surprise?

Well it was a surprise to me! I thought the State picked the books and the local school boards picked from what the State picked!

I don't think a lot of people are aware of Common Core.

It seems to be carefully crafted pure propaganda designed to affect how the children think.

It is not preparing our kids for the real world...they will be sadly surprised...

If propaganda is provided early enough, and long enough, reality is only what you think. This was the successful program which created "Hitler youth".

The uncontested absurdities of today are the accepted slogans of tomorrow. They come to be accepted by degrees, by precedent, by implication, by erosion, by default, by dint of constant pressure on one side and constant retreat on the other - until the day when they are suddenly declared to be the country's official ideology. ~ Ayn Rand

and this is what some Experts had to say about it!

A general State education is a mere contrivance for moulding people to be exactly like one another; and as the mould in which it casts them is that which pleases the dominant power in the government, whether this be a monarch, an aristocracy, or a majority of the existing generation; in proportion as it is efficient and successful, it establishes a despotism over the mind, leading by a natural tendency to one over the body." - John Stuart Mill, "On Liberty"

"Education is a weapon whose effects depend on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed." - Joseph Stalin

"It is the absolute right of the State to supervise the formation of public opinion." - Joseph Goebbels

my youngest child went to catholic school. really needn't say more. My kids have been out of public schools for many years and IDK what goes on in them, really.

As far an Islamic text IF that is true they are violating the separation of Church and State. Schools cannot be seen as supporting one religion at the expense of another. Although classes on religion(s) can be taught as far as sharing knowledge and ideas, but as far as I can remember most schools seem to avoid that.

The schools where my children went up until the youngest, were controlled at the local and state level. Federal control comes in the form of certain special programs like Title 1 Reading and Gifted Education, the lunch program, etc.

The more students on entitlements a school has the more federal funding you will see there. One of my older sons was in a Title 1 Reading program in first grade and it was excellent! He is now writing his doctoral thesis in Engineering :)

That is exactly what it is!!..

Common Core is another attempt to gain information and downplay fundamental differences....It is just one more underhanded attempt to standardize America, make her easer to "manage"...Data collection is a key element in the process....

Television is conditioning
Education is formulating
Employment (or the lack of) is investment on division
Politics/law is banker enforcement of all the above

The Constitution was written (as some would say) as a living document, warning us of the corruption of democracy, or mob rule. Power in the hands of the few. That is why there was a separation of powers, a division of church and state.

The Federalist papers, the Bill of rights, were like the ten commandments, a guide for the people, warning of the corruption into tyranny if these boundaries were ever exceeded and a means, by law, to correct such usurpations of the power of the people.

As Ben Franklin once stated after the signing of our founding documents into law....."A Republic madam, if you can keep it.".

Democracy is not mentioned in any of these documents for good reason. They limit the power of government, not the people.

We have become what these documents were written in the hopes of avoiding, serfs to a ruling class of banker elites. Power in the hands of a few, over the many.

Common Core is nothing more than training to bow to that will, to accept what we have become, not what was intended.

The wheels of gov't turn slow for a reason. It is the boiling of the frog which leads to the demise of freedom and peoples rights.

I just heard about this. Disturbing to say the least. You either teach about all religions or don't include any religions as part of "Common Core". To teach just Islam is not only wrong, it's insane!! noway mad

Brain washing of our youth perhaps? Another step in the direction of New World Order? One religion, one monetary unit, one gigantic military to enforce one set of imposed standards, one giant free healthcare system, one big huge government dictating what our kids are taught and just about everything else in our lives? And to top it off, they'll take away our guns too so we can all live happy safe lives without the means to oppose their 'standards'. Can you say Big Brother? surprised

I admittedly don't know anything about teacher's unions and their impact, but I'd hope they'd oppose this strongly. I'd seriously consider home schooling if I had young kids these days with what I'm learning about our current educational standards. Scary what they're imparting on young minds...scared

I always thought the wheels of gov't turned slow because they have 20,000 copies of 60,000 forms to fill out to move a desk....lol

I understand this idea that common core is buying into some type of propaganda but no one has really explained how or what the message is supposed to be????

There is no message, only an agenda of conditioning to accept the rule of an oligarchy as the standard of life.

The rule of Kings
