I don't think there is a single thing; I think you need trust AND dedication. You have to be able to rely on each other and feel that both are committed to the relationship, otherwise there is no point.

I don't think there is such a thing. My parents have been married going on 39 years. They love each other, but I think they depend on each other more. My grandparents were married 59 years, and same thing, they depended on each other, that and I don't think they knew how to live without each other and the bickering and what not. I think tolerance is most important, but it still doesn't make the relationship successful. JMHO

Good question, I know some people who think if a relationship never ends or lasts for decades, it's successful, but to me it's about quality over quantity. I'd rather have several pleasant relationships instead of being stuck forever in one that sucks. |
