Lou, you will be missed and remembered. 71, hard to believe time is passing by so fast. One of the pioneers Lou Reed has joined the great host of artists in the beyond. It was all joy meeting you and hope to again someday, RIP. I and millions of others will take a "walk on the wild side" with you today.
I raise my light. |

Why do we get so shocked though, when they die? We surely knew they would die one day anyway? I can understand more if you've been a long-time fan. |

For me, it's part fan, part their in my line of work, and mostly I think what they have left behind historically. I don't have a piece of so and so in my house or playing on my stereo, but with Lou or others I find of interest I live with a part of him every day somehow.
I listen to Lou every year more than I do talking to my brother. I love my brother but also become attached to the people who have shaped the world on a bigger scale. It's a good question you ask Rawrr. I do think in some way many of these people do become a part of our family. We watch what they go through their whole life and how they have been a part of ours. It's like missing an extented family member. Someone who created something that we as the world family have experienced. I can't tell you how many people in the last 4 hours have mentioned lou to me. And that's me, someone who worked with him breifly. I would imagine his fan club and base is probably having parties of sorts all over the world right now. Kind of a celebration of his life and music I would think. |

I can't say I connect the name with his music but I think it is nice to note the contributions of artists and the way their gifts does touch our lives.
With the current harassment that people who are in the entertainment industry have to endure and how hard it used to be for artists to get their art out there it seems fair to honor them. It is disquieting to see people, more and more artists, passing at a young age (71) and makes me wonder if we should not do more to see that they have access to better health care and financial protections for themselves and their families. Media companies rake in millions while many performers; especially the every day people playing in the background are forgotten. At least think of that the next time you download a pirated song or fail to pay the band when you are out socializing. |

another great has fallen.. he will be remembered by those who enjoyed his flavor of music.. although not an ardent or huge fan.. his "walk on the wild side" inspired me to toss a backpack over my shoulder the day after my 18th birthday.. and hit the road traveling with only my thumb as fare..

No doubt he will be missed my friend for sure. I saw him on a music program about 6 months ago and thought I'd watch for a few minutes and I'll be damned if I just didn't watch the whole thing. Just could not turn him off.
