i dont have any idea what i am suppose to be doing to meet other people here so could some one help me out please

Matt I think you go to the person's profile you want to add as a friend, and their should be a blue button, 'add to friends' list..
send them a brief note, then wait for their answer...

Now as far as how to get around in here,,,,
