I agree with your friends who are adamant about finding a mate for their character and qualities. I think "true love" is there when you can see a person for the way the conduct their lives as opposed to needing to have major chemistry with them. The warm fuzzy you have with "love" won't last long if it's 2AM and you're feeding the baby but he's no where to be found. The warm fuzzies also won't last if your car needs to be fixed and he's not around to take it to the shop. I'm not saying that there won't be ANY chemistry at all, but I am saying that chemistry can grow as you get to know someone for the "right" reasons. I'd be less inclined to pursue someone if I had major attraction to them because all of that stuff fades over time. I could definitely see my appreciation for a man with solid character winning me over in the long haul. I could go on, but I'll just start with this for now.

I like it that some people are coming through on the practicality side of things here. Seems there may be hope for the big brain between the ears after all. For a while I was thinking that the only brains people were listening to were those somewhere closer to their knees. Girls and guys both have those extra brains don't they?

Practicality is wonderful and I agree that you must match up, but don't under-estimate a good emotional response. Granted if you are indeed with someone who is synced up with you well, the emotions are bound to come along eventually.

I still say love is bigger. I'm not wasting my time with someone I don't love and have no chemistry with.

Bay I understand what you're saying but what you just described is NOT love. Someone who sticks with you through rough and good times is devoted and truly loves you. Then comes evaluating good financial and spending habits.
Love isn't a simple formula but you KNOW it when it's there. I applaud those who are strictly for practicality because I couldn't do it. Some people might resort to affairs in this situation because they might seek satisfaction that is lacking in just a straight practical marriage |

I think what we all are striving for is love and practicality!!! But there has to be at least "some" sort of initial attraction or I think alot of people will stray.....

I agree Gypsy You hit it right on the nail

Bored, What you say contradicts itself. Does solid character not include being devoted to your well-being and sticking by you through the hard times? I think we are agreeing, but you are just being difficult! |

Bay what?
You said something about babies and how love appears to run out during rough times. I'm not trying to be difficult. You can clarify me without saying I'm trying to be difficult. |
