Topic: Women's buisness | |
---|---|
How the hell does a single father explain women's buisness? My daughter is only 3 but I'm dreading the day it happens. She doesn't have her mother in her life (not by our choice) or any other female that I trust to explain it too her and I would like for her to feel comfortable talking to me about it but I know this might not happen. Do I put her on google, buy an educational DVD about menstrual cycles or do they learn it at school?

3?
You have bout 9 more years to fret. The older you both get the easier it all will be to explain. Besides, she and her gal friends will be talking about it. |

I honestly think they talk about all of that stuff
in health class. Plus there are books out there that helps explain a lot of things. I am a single mom and I bought books for my boys to read when it came time for them to know about sex. LOL they laughed at me and said we already learned this in health class mom. Plus you will be shocked what they learn from the other kids in school...you just can not protect your innocent kids anymore!!!! |

I agree with what unsure said - they learn a lot in school. Sometimes more than we want them to know. The one thing that I would suggest (this has worked well with my daughter) - talk to her about everything in a normal conversation. It lets her know that you aren't afraid to communicate. Just remember though, no matter how cool of a dad you are, there will always be things that she'll be embarrassed to talk to you about, and that's just a girl thing.

Thank you ladies for the advice. Hasn't fallen on deaf ears.

Honestly the things they learn in school just barely scratch the surface. They will learn the physiological reasons for what their bodies go through but NOT the emotional aspects. My advice...and I agree that you have plenty of time before this even becomes an issue...is to find a good and trusted female friend or family member and sit down with them both and discuss it. Tell her there is nothing to be embarrassed about or feel shame about. Let her know that you're proud of the woman that she's becoming and that the lines of communication are always open, no matter how she's feeling.

The best thing is to let her know she can trust you and come to you if she has questions. Do not let her fear talking to you. Have an open and honest relationship with her. There are books out there for certain age groups. I highly recommend you read books to help you understand what your daughter is going through at different time periods of her life. Find a female mentor also. School does teach quite a bit, but the more you know the better the trust between you and your daughter.

I agree with what jesusprincessmt said..when it comes to it try to make it (as much as you can) a comfortable conversatiom..not too pushy with it but try to make it seem like its perfectly fine and okay for her to talk to you about girl stuff

I do know that in high school they get to watch a baby
being born. My son actually came out pale as a ghost and told me that he was scarred for life. LOL he had to come home and lay down because if made him sick watching all of it. I am sure that in health they don't tell them everything but I am sure that when your daughter gets to that age, you are going to be so close that she will feel fine asking you anything. Communication is key, you just have to be open with her and let her know that she can ask you anything and you will never judge her. If you have questions or need any help, you have a lot of female friends her that will always be there for you...just ask for our opinions. |

sit her down and tell her that about age 11 or shortly thereafter all hell breaks loose ... in the name of preparing her body for procreation....from there keep it fairly scientific and practical....like "here you'll need to wear these..."
and a booklet won't hurt |

They talk about everything that makes us feel uncomfortable. Also, talk to her about drugs and bullying before she starts junior high!! You will be shocked how drugs are easy access!!! I don't know what your religious beliefs are and it is none of my business, but I raised my boys in the church. They had a great younger pastor they could talk to about anything when they went to teen night. They actually loved it!! |

Far from religious. Regarding drugs, I've been there done that and no way in hell she is, and I would be able to easily detect if she is then its punishment time lol and bullying I don't know wat my approach will be. I got bullied and was a bully and I turned out ok. Just a little frightened when it comes to hormones and lady stuff as I have had no experience cuz I'm a guy lol

Honestly Edward, I don't think you are going to have
any problems. When she turns old enough to talk about those things, she is going to know that YOU are the one person she can come to for anything. She will be able to talk to you and not feel strange about it. There is always a special bond between a daughter and her daddy...no matter how old they are!!! I sure do miss my Dad I could talk to my dad about anything and I never felt strange about it. My dad and I have such a good bond and a close relationship that anything I said to him, he would never share with anyone or laugh at me for asking. Just wait and see, I am sure that you will have a great bond with your daughter also!!! You are the one person she counts on the most! |
