I do not know a whole lot about the mormon church. What i do know is when i was in the military i found they were the only guy's who i could believe and they worked very hard at thier studies. This did impress me about them but i never had a desire to join and they never asked me too.... Shalom... Miles

the Bible says that we will know TRUE believers by the fruits of their spirit. the Bible also says that the ONLY way to obtain true salvation is to repent of your sins with Godly sorrow, be baptized by full emmersion in the name of Jesus Christ for the REMISSION of sins (meaning that your sins are completely washed away, and not even remembered by God), and to recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost with the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues. this is found in Acts 2:38 as Peter is preaching when he tells the people "That God made that same Jesus which ye have crucified both Lord and Christ." the people then ask "Men and bretheren, what shall we do?" "Peter said unto them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and ye shall recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, unto your children, and all those that are afar off even as many as the Lord our God shall call." the evidence of Jesus name baptism is found in Acts 4:12 - For there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. Baptism in titles (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) is not spoken of here. Matthew 28:19 is the only place. And that was Jesus giving a command to the Apostles. If Peter was wrong for saying "In Jesus Name" the other Apostles would have stood up and told him that that was not what Jesus said. When Jesus gave his command, the Apostles understood what He was speaking of, and did as He had commanded them. When you say "I now baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." You are only repeating the command, not following it as in Acts 2:38, and Acts 4:12. The first outpouring of the Holy Ghost is found in Acts 2:4 - 4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

As far as I know, the Mormon church does not believe this, and they do believe that man will eventually become a god of his/her own planet. they also believe that you can purchase baptism for the dead, which none of this is supported in scripture. the Bible also says in Psalm 119:89 - For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
And it also says in Galatians 1:8 - But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. The doctrine Paul was speaking of here was that which was originally taught by the Apostles that Jesus had given them knowledge of. The mormon church does not preach this doctrine. As they have added new scripture (the Book of Mormon) which is also stated in the Bible that if any man adds or takes away from the Scripture, that there will be punishment..... |

Bidright! Keep up the good work!!!! What faith are you, and what do you believe? When I was younger, I went to a few different churches. Each one that I went to seemed great when I first attended. But, in the end, none reached my expectation. Here was the problem for me.....doctrines. When I started reading the doctrines, that's where I turned away. When there is something in a doctrine that doesn't make sense, or is against what I believe (know?) to be the laws of God, I cannot continue to attend! So, what I consist of, is a mixture of beliefs, some from the many religions I have investgated. The furthest out being the concept of God, as a collective consciousness. Interestingly enough, God performed a miracle in my life at age 24, in which he revealed his existence beyond any possible reasonable doubt. So...is the Mormon church a cult? Good question! If it is a cult...then what? If it isn't...then what? I'm just trying to put perspective to the question!
PS Anoasis, I compliment you on your insight! |

Well, to be consitered a cult the viewed "religion" makes you cut off ties to family, make you change yor personallity or name. those are the grounds of viewing a so called religion as a cult.
Mormonism and Christianity are not an intertwined religion because they do not find faver with eachother, the Bible rejects what the Morman bible says in every way. Take for the fact that they believe that they will become God/s but God put in the ten commandments that thou shalt have no other God's before me. so right there the Mormon Bible contridicts The true Bible so therefore has no basis to be called a sect of christianity. along with other Beliefs that do not coinside with what the Bible teaches. |

right on josh.
After typing up a whole bunch of stuff here I've decided that its probably best that I be quiet in these religious cults and conspiracy discussions as in the past I have been kicked for my 'heretical' opinions all I have to say that there are 2 religions in this world the DO religions and the DONE religion. emphasis on DO religionS- plural and ONE DONE religion. In REAL christianity, the deed to gain salvation has already been DONE, all you gotta do is accept this beautiful gift of eternal life. in every other religion incl every other "christian" sect (incl catholicsm) you have to DO stuff to GET it. In essesnce by doing this you think you can get to heaven by WORKS or DEEDS, but this is not how Gods gift of salvation works, hence you can be a saint and you'd be screwed because you didnt accept the gift. What is DONE is that our sins have already been payed for. |

I am mormon, but this is what I have to say. I believe in my church, and the teachings of the bible book of mormon, D&C, and Pearl of Great Price. And nothing will change that.
I will not debate my religion because debating religion is like debating politics. He says one thing, she says another neither one can agree and in the end nothing is solved and every one has a chip on their shoulder. Now here is the problem with believing in a religion. This is the Scientific Age. The world has become one in which few people can believe in anything without tangible proof. Which is understandable, I mean I'm not going to believe a snaggle tooth gluckgluck exist without proof. For all the scientific mind knows the bible could be a record of the old world when something happened at the time that was completely unexplainable at the time but with today's technology could easily be explained. Who knows, maybe it's the world's first collection fictitious literature. Now I really want to know is why is it so important to prove yourself right? If you spout your beliefs to someone who doesn't agree why waste your time trying to "enlighten them" when they are not interested in being "enlightened". When you try to force you thoughts opinions or beliefs on someone it's just going to make you mad. Why waste your time trying to bring down science or religion. I'm sure ther are better ways to use your time. |

Then Christianity can be considered a cult. Just ask any of the homosexuals who have been cast out of their church and denied by their families. Ask those who are still in the closet, if they have been forced to change their persoanlity? If the reason is due to a "so called religion", you might want to hide before they tell you which one. |

I don't know where you have seen the Gay community being forced to ccut family ties and being FORCED to change their personalitys but I don't quite think you understood what I meant when I said what I said.
When you join a cult they make you cut your ties with your family, true christian churches welcome family members and communications with them, as far as them changing their personalitys that is their fears, because they may fear rejection of not being accepted for their lifestyle but the church should still accept the person's personality, the only thing that should change is the lifestyle because God does not like sin of any kind. God said that a man may not lay with another man like a man with a woman, so therefore they cannot live that lifestyle while they are being christians. would you feel the same "injustice" If a murderer said that they were afraid the same way? You would expect them to change their sinful ways would you not? A child molester has a lifestlye but that's not accepted, mass murders have theyre lifestyle. a lifestyle is the STYLE in which you live your LIFE so therefore not every lifestyle shoud be acceptable nore deemed a moral way of life, if we accept a lifestyle then we can accept others such as beastiality, Mulestation, Murder, Rape and other things because in LOGIC those are peoples "LIFESTYLES". I hope you consitter these when you think that things are not "fair" for everone. |

I studied the Morman faith with two missionarys that came regularly to my home. Weekly, and more often, for about a year and a half. I even went to the Morman church for awhile. It did not ring true. I was uncomfortable with their beliefs. They are not Christians. Puleeze! Joseph Smith was "daydreaming" in a field and "The Angel Moroni came to him and told him where to dig for a book left there, BURIED, for him to find?? I don't think so! Moses weaves a better story for us. This is a cult. They have to attend Morman teaching school every day, mon-fri before going to public school. This means at 5am they are being taught this myth. It just doesn't ring true to me. It is historic fact. Jesus Christ was born, lived, taught and died on the cross. Fact. Not fiction. This is my belief.

Mormons are Christians, and might I remind people that the BIBLE was WRITTEN BY MAN That's why it's "THE KING JAMES VERSION" KIng James was deathly afraid of things and changed the bible to reflect those beliefs that HE had.Not that were actual gospels.Back in that time very few people could read and so the few who could had the power and used it.

To Bidright.
It's an elitist movement that requires exclusivity in its' defence. It also excludes any not adhering to its tenents. As with other emotionally charged groups, it offers aid and comfort to the self preservation of its own efficacy. Nepotism is something like proselytizing neophytes. Just the mention of your concerns shows discernment of falsehood. To Tasslehofff. The King James version was published for King James to read in his own tongue. It was mass produced so that the leaders and rulers in the Kingdom at his watch could read the Bible likewise for themselves. This became the basis for The Church of England. It also became the basis for the average Joe to read what was in prior generations spoon fed to the world of man by elitist protagonists bent on their self serving interpretation of the meaning of life. Anything that withstands the light of day and can be discussed openly deserves merit. Open and vigorous debate of any and all issues has a greater appeal when elitist and exclusive use of knowledge are forfeited. |

The New American Bible represents a notable achievement. Its pages contain a new Catholic(catholic means unified) version of the Bible in English, along with illustrations and explanations that facilitate the understanding of the text.
For more than a quarter of a century, members of the Catholic Biblical Association of America, sponsored by the Bishop's Committee of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, have labored to create this new translation of the Scriptures from the original languages or from the oldest extant form in which the texts exist. Henry VIII is the cause of the separation from the Catholic Church, because he was not allowed a divorce from his 1st wife, Catherine, so that he could marry Anne Bolen. He broke away from the Catholic Church and started The Anglican Church of England. He was then excommunicated from the Catholic Church. He continued to use the Catholic St Joseph's Edition of the Bible. King James version of the Bible came long after Henry VIII. |

Donnar, my intent was to describe all too simplistically what the Church of England is.
True as you say. Footnote; The Church of England could become the Mormon faith, as it is the Queen or King's personal religion the is called " The Church of England". As absurd as that sounds, it would be legal. |

something that we learn in the lds church is freedom of agency....being taught what we need to know but it is upon us to do follow the rules....that is our purpose on this earth, is to receive instruction and then choose whether to comply with it or not. that's what separates the worthy from the unworthy. i was born and raised catholic and converted into mormoninsm when i was 18. i just knew there had to be something more out there. and i found the one religion that actually made sense to me and put together all the puzzle pieces in the right order. i don't on the other hand go around badgering the catholic church even though i have my own strong personal feelings about it....so before u go fill people's head w/all ur crap....let them form their own opinions, b/c in my opinion i can fall away from the church tomorrow....but i will always love my lds family....they are the kindest, warmest, most sincere people i've ever met!

They have never attempted to change my beliefs or rejected me, and I have never heard them condemn anyone elses religous belefs! They have always welcomed me into their Temple! All I hear here are unbased, unknowledgable rumours and lies, and Im a Chatholic! |
