That looks wicked! Don't get carried away with the extra butter, yeah? S*, yeah right, hah! I'm telling you, you shoulda tried it when you were here :-) Next time? For sure...I'm actually interested in crab fishing, they say it is dangerous. And, well, you know me. |

Actually not dangerous at all, you stand on the shore and throw the trap into the bay attached to a rope, wait 10-15 minutes then pull it in. Measure it and check gender, toss back anything female or undersize. Mmmmmmmm. |

The Bering Sea up and around there, I hear in January out on a boat if you are North enough you are already in the first stages of hypothermia and you don't even know it. Sounds like a hell of a story. |

Sounds like a hell of a story. Meh, 'The Perfect Storm' has already been done. And ya I have seen those Alaskan fishermen, I dunno how they do it. I mean, I don't go to Omaha and lasso a steer, I go to the grocery store and stare at it all wrapped and ready to go. |

We each had one crab, it was $18 :-) Takes forever to eat those suckers. Well actually, eating is fast, it is the accessing the crabmeat that takes the time. I had never done it, he had to show me how :-) I love Crab meat! Great photos!! |

It is unlike anything else, mild, tangy, meaty, sweet, salty, and even though we had butter and lemon handy we did not use either it was soooo good all alone. Freaking delicious. You have to try it :-) Soufie, your crabs are what I call a "rock crab" probably simular to the ones here in New England. I grew up in Maryland and there the Blue Fin crabs are definately a sweeter crab. And no respectable Marylander (or former one) would have their crab not steamed without a seasoning called "Old Bay". However: Since you like yours with butter, try this: Forget the lemon and in your cup of melted butter add: a dash or two of Garlic Powder (note: NOT Garlic Salt) AND a dash or two of Italian Seasoning. Something some Marylanders do is steam their crabs in beer. To be honest though, I can't tell the difference. But the seasoning might cover that for me. You might try that if you're adventurous enough one day Guaranteed you will like your crabs AND/OR Lobster even better than just plain melted butter after you add the Garlic Powder & Italian seasoning |

I watch that 'PitBulls & Parolees' show, now based in New Orleans, love it, maybe one day.. And see now, crawfish sounds horrid, never had it, but I would try it, maybe be surprised again :-) |

It's 50/50. Eating them with friends makes them taste better But I enjoyed crabbing better than fishing. I'd use the chicken on a string (the smellier the bait the better) tied to the dock method where you pull them up close to the surface and scoop them with the net. Those little buggars can slip off and swim away FAST. They're not caught on a hook. So it takes more skill. Too close to the surface, or a jerky movement and they're gone in a split second. Of course, if you use the cage method, well that's just not as sporting. But you can catch more for the tummy When we were younger we would line my mom's cement porch with layers of newspaper. She would steam the crabs and come out and dump them. All the kids would be sitting around a big circle and we'd eat them up, roll the newspaper when we were done. And then hose off the porch. Good times Of course now when I go home for a visit, we buy the crabs, sit at a table, and drink BEER with them. Just as good

Well, this is what we compete with:
It is their ideal meal, and they thrive on them. When the tide comes in, they all dive into the Bay, and they will bob around your crabtraps, and will pull them out if you let them :-) I love the part about the porch and paper jemare :-) |

Aw...those seals are so cute you just might want to go ahead and let them have some of your crabs. Kind of like when the pet dogs give you those
same puppy dog eyes when they're begging for the table scraps There is a bad side to eating crabs..... The smell that comes from the garbage can after they've been in there for a couple days in the heat of summer It was soooo bad one summer my mom gave the garbage men a 6 pk of beer for their cooler for after work for suffering from that smell. Of course now a days.... that would be a bad thing to offer the garbage men. Or should I say sanitation workers to be politically correct now |

Oh I hear that.
I had renters one time who cooked them and then placed the detritus in the garbage, that was years ago, I can still smell them when I open the garbage can..and I cleaned it! Ya, the seals are delicious to watch. They will follow you if you walk along the shoreline, their sweet little faces with the big eyes popping up every few minutes, like they are on your journey with you. I am unsure who watches whom, the most :-) |
