Topic: Changing Ip addresses... | |
---|---|
How do I change my ip address, or what ever it is that shows me and this computer being as me? Do I go back to my provider, or do I need to change my provider? I have had some challenges with people tracing my address and wish to change it, so that I am not leaving the same trails...
And no, being in Australia, a proxy won't help, as most are US and Canadian. |

Power down your computer....unplug your cable modem from both power sockets to and from your computer tower...
let sit for a minute....reboot cable modem only hook all plug ins back into your tower one at a time... then reboot your computer.... do an ip search to see if it has changed. |

Release then renew .
Open your run menu and type in cmd hit enter. At the prompt type ipconfig / release hit enter then at the new prompt type ipconfig / renew . Actually im not sure this will do what you want as im pretty sure this only changes the local ip . |

Jesse,
If you have a static IP adress the only way to change it is through your provider or switch to a new ISP request a new IP Address. If your address is dynamic then ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew should change it. But these solutions do not explain how someon is able to resolve your host name through your IP address. Most times if you leave your computer turned-off when you turn it on you will get a new ip address is your set for server-assigned (dynamic). If you have a static address it will always be resolveable to a host name. |

Also if you use the command ipconfig /all will show your DNS and DHCP servers addresses. If you use traceroute then a name like intel.com you can see how you are getting to their site and hops along the way but these(hpos) can change each time.
