well i have many experiences from riding but the one that sticks with me the most is when i was out riding (by myself) and my normally calm horse started acting spooky and kept acting up, but i tried to make him behave and keep going when he reared up (out of character) and then i saw why he was acting so strange..... there was a panther in the brush not more than 30 ft from us so i just let him have the reins and let him go and he shot out of them woods and i was just hanging on.. didnt even look back and he ran all the way home on his own. I was so freaked out, after that i dont go trail riding by myself....flowerforyou

we went to SHAWNEE National Park last july .. my horse n I were standing over a cliff of water.. the rock gave way... and down we went .. we went under like 3 times before my BIGBAY was able to get his NOT SLIP shoes [duh!!!} hooked on a rock and pull us out.... i was with 4 others all they could do was watch and NO way to help us out. OF course now it s a big joke.. that bigbay can really swim n save his STUpid rider.. lol

We do not have panthers here. I can tell you the riding along and getting right above a wild turkey settin on eggs can be exciting too.I have this one all to often. My horses act like its a panther , for a few seconds.Just try to turn um around let um see wat they are scared of.The turkey set perfectly still till you almost step on them then fly strait up.Right now its thoses pesky little chiggers that get me the most. ITs been so dry here and they are bad.Now I use the horses spray on me, cant take all that itchin, scratchin stuff.

Sounds like a blast BigBay wish I could be there!

Seems like all the endurance horses up this way are an Arab/TB cross....
What do you guys think of that cross? Never owned anything but Quarters myself... Only rode an Arab once and I remember it was like floating on clouds lol

i think the arab/tb is a good cross for endurance.. size and GO.. all rolled up in one.. huh.. i prefered the morgan. /arab cross because i like the smaller HEIGHT n the bigger muscle .n lots of ENDURANCE .. n lung cap. but now i have AQHA stock cept for the rescued spotted walking mare.. which most of what she is doing right now is EATING n POOPIN>> woooo whoooooo.. gona be a nice mare when she gets her weight and strenght back

Initially did trackwork, in a small stable of 8, crazy thoroughbreds...more steam than brains..laugh

First horse, when I 16 years old,a skewbald filly, 14 hh..ran with a herd of brumbies, and was mustered in by helicopter, yarded, and 'broken in', in three days...so green as.noway

Second horse, paint filly, 14,3hh, a 2 year old, 'broke' her in myself.

Bred a paint colt out of her, to an AQHA stallion,(imp. Doc's Pride) when she was 6, both ribbon winners at local shows. Gelded him at 2, and had the quietest, 'bomb-proof, gelding. He went on to harness work, and western pleasure, after being 'broken in', he was worked with cattle.

Bought a horse destined for the doggers, labelled a 'bolter'...the most beautiful palamino, 15hh, 6 year old, first cross quarter horse gelding..took the bit out of his mouth, gave him a hackamore, and had the sweetest horse I have ever owned...cost me $100 and I sold him for $2000 to an adventure trail ride outfit, who did week long treks through Victoria...

He's their lead horse!

All my horses were worked, and broken using the Monty Roberts (Horse Whisperer) methodology, long before we had heard of him here in Australia.

No horses now, I sold all of them a few years back, the drought's a killer here, and feed is so expensive.
