Cell phones are great, until you realize you
can get unlimited calling service from a landline for $4.99 a month as oppposed to the $120 a month for the cell I was paying. |

No its not wrong...land lines are so much cheaper. Besides you can not worry about what everyone else thinks, do what makes you happy!!
I have a cell phone that I mostly text on and use for emergencies. I basically never give that number out!!! |

It should be cheaper to have a cell or non wired connection - no line maintenance. Makes no sense - except the whole supply & demand thing |

Not only is it not wrong, socially, I would say it is more polite. If it is one thing I cannot stand, it is being with a group of people who have there heads down in their mobile devices. What is even the point of hanging with other people if you are more concerned with folks that aren't even with you?

I have a smart phone and I don't think I could do without it. I use it for GPS, banking, gaming, internet radio, TV, a flash light, mapping, calculator, translations, tuning my guitar, a calendar/date book, camera, shopping, dictionary, alarm clock and I'm using it now as a WiFi hotspot to connect my laptop to the web. All for just $78.00 a month. And it works all over the USA. Who needs landlines?

I think it has a lot to do with...
EMERGENCIES ONLY yea if you are stranded away from home cell is essential to call out if you are close enough to a tower. If not; well you know that answer. You don't have to pass it around if you don't want to but calling 911 on a cell is not likely to get you any real assistence fast. If you don't have preprogramed numbers in your cell you are going to run out of juice before you get much help so I recommend it. WHERE you want to call. Cell phones have land lines beat hands down for cost on long distance calls. Especially with prepaid or no contract contracts cell service. It is important to read the fine print. True you can make "free" computer calls on land line but if you don't have expensive DSL service you can loose critical calls when you least want to. If you live in a high crime area or have life threatening or dependent family members basic landline service even if without long distance seems essential. HOW MUCH do you want to answer your phone. You work shift work, want to enjoy your favorite program, aren't home a lot you have to think which phone works for you. Land lines have stable calls but if you don't want to be flooded by lot of phone solicitors you have to closely guard the use of a landline number and if it gets out to people you don't want to have it changeing it cheaply without effectively cutting off everyone you know is a huge hassle. Smart phones with answering capability, silencers, and caller id help but it A cell is easy to shut off when you want peace and if it is a prepaid you can let the number run out and get a new one when you want to delete your "old" callers simply letting the number fade out. A prepaid cell can be a great starter number for someone you want to decide if you want in your life and gives you the portablility/convienence a landline doesn't. WHO do you want to know all the information that goes along with the very affordable land line. Which is really your life history in many ways includeing pictures. Unlisted phone or not. What works for me is the stability, dependability, and professional presentation of haveing a land line that I give only to select people. Eventually distinguishing yourself as something more than an online scammer helps when someone is serious enough about you to check you out. If you even remotely think you want immediate 911 access then the land line is critical. |

It is your personal preference. Use it as you need.

I have no landline, so I always use my cell phone. I turn it off for meetings and other activities though, no need to be rude.

I suppose I'm unusual because I'm an OTR truck driver. But, even if I lived in a house, I still wouldn't have a land line. I'd have a voit phone.
