I could care less how anyone dresses. I think if you feel comfortable; then wear what you want. I can remember my parents freaking out about girls wearing mini skirts and I vowed that I wasn't going to be like that. Me, I can dress from a military uniform, to long gown & heels; to just wearing a sweatsuit as I did yesterday to go out for some cold medication. Clothing does not make me the person I am; as its merely an outer dressing and nothing more. I have better things to worry about in life than worrying about what others are wearing.

I agree that clothes don't make the person. However, the clothes we choose do have an effect on how we're perceived by others. We all make snap judgements based on appearance. We can't help it, it's part of our evolutionary programming. Clothes are a big clue to who a person is. I have found, most of the time, you absolutely can judge a book by it's cover. Gangsters dress like gangsters and bankers dress like bankers.

It's my opinion that everyone should make an effort to look as good as they can, as often as they can within the context of what they're doing at the time. This is what "appropriate attire" means. What you wear to go shopping or to a job interview is going to be different than what you wear to work on your car or fix your plumbing. But, no matter what you're doing, there's no excuse for looking bad while you do it.

Again; who cares how someone dresses. I would obviously dress for an interview or the symphony but going shopping; nope. Sweats are just fine. I want to be comfy and when you are loading and unloading a vehicle; good chance of getting dirty and why would I care what anyone thought of me. I am buying groceries for my home not trying to meet someone. People really need to get overthemselves. I reserve my judgments for a person on actually talking to them so as long as the person has good hygiene; I don't care what they wear.

I have to concur, in fact, ID consider somoene looking spiffy at the grocery store in the middle of the night as kind of high maintenance,,,lol

it just depends upon the occasion, that person who is interested in YOU is gonna have to know you dont walk around 24/7 dressed to impress, nor should you feel a need to just to be accepted by others,,,

when I run to the store, I dont bother with the makeup and crap, its just a chance for someone to find me 'attractive' as I am,, and probably be more likely to stick around after we get comfortable and have to be sharing a home or a space with each other

I would tend to agree wtih you and Navy. I do think Lee makes a point of being well kept and the degree to which we do that is somewhat subjective. The idea of being seen in jeans and sweats at the grocery with no make up doesn't bother me.....better for him to get to know & like you without that - no surprises later....lol - were you to actaully meet someone there, that is. Here in the midwest is sooo different from back east. people never talk to each other in public here ohwell

Sure, and why not a loin cloth? I understand they are very comfortable in the right weather.

You are missing the point. Nothing wrong with sweats (although I wouldn't be caught dead in them outside the gym). What looks bad is inappropriate clothes. A 300 pound woman in a halter. A fat man in pants that don't cover his butt crack.

I have said a number of times in this thread that anyone can look good no matter what style of clothes they're wearing. It's all about the fit.

Of course; I wouldn't wear clothes that don't fit properly. I wear dress clothes five days a week and a uniform twice a week; so by the weekend I want to relax. I was at a hardware store covered in paint, sawdust, and just dirt from working outside. I had to pick up a few things for the project I was working on. I had two guys flirting with me yet I looked like hell. I also have guys chatting with me when I am in biking shorts, tank top, and helmet hair from my bike helmet. Fact is; I live in cowboy country. Dressing up here is a dress shirt and jeans. If you dress up; you are considered stuck up and people won't give you the time of the day.

I'm not saying women should wear ballgowns to the rodeo. I'm saying a person can look good in anything as long as it fits. It sounds to me like everything yo had on was appropriate for where you were at the time. So, you got good reactions from others.

Please don't take offense...

You guys would make gutless pansies seem Butch...

Try dressing yourself......not sure it will help...if having the s rd people dress you is comforting...be prepared to never get laid....EVER.

People here have been doing that for the last few years...once when the temp. hit the 80's in Fahrenheit, I came to work in shorts and a tank top, similar to all the ones like women wear, and was told to go home and change the top...Wtf??? Must have been because I didn't have boobs; so much for gender equality in the workplace.sad I have some designer label loincloths, like Ralph Loren, Gucci,Giorgio Armani, etc. and come hot weather, I'll try those or save them for the annual Naked Bike Ride Day here; a huge event in many cities:laughing(and yes, lots of people work that day and do ride to work... )
If your city or town doesn't have a Naked Bike Ride Day, they really should...rofl

Wow; we can't wear tank tops or shorts at work no matter how hot it is. I just wear something made of cotton to cool me down which is dressy.

Growing up, dressing like the young girls do today, my dad would have grounded me for life...lol And I wasn't aloud to go to bars ( some had bands on the weekend and the kids would go to dance).. I am not into fads or very expensive clothes although I do buy some expensive shoes but that's because I have problems with my feet.. I always dress for the occasion and have my own style.. I dress for my self, am clean and neat and not out to impress anyone..

I tend to make my own fashion statement or lack of (more so in younger years) as most of my clothes are tailor made. Hard to find store stuff that feels right to me for some reason. Some people have bodies that come right out of the catalog and some of us were created odd I guess. So for us "odd lots" we tend to do our own thing and don't quite fit in standards or norms.

"Eat what you like,
Wear what the world likes"

- An olde proverb

It's for your own good. The idea is to 'fit in'. Drawing unwanted attention gets one self-conscious. Then for every blessed thing (like scratching the nose, biting a lip) one tends to look around to see if it meets approval.

Another thing is a woman should not dress like a man. On crowded streets no big deal brushing past another male.

I guess it all depends on how you grew up and where, also maybe how you feel about yourself
For me, I like to show cleavage, (not that I have that much), so do my daughters, I dont find that a problem, I am not affended if someone looks, it really is no big deal, its just how i dress.

There will always be someone no matter what you do who does not approve of something that you do, say or wear,

If there are dress rules, I abide by them as do my children.

If not we can wear what we choose, boobs bum or whatever showing, nobody really has to look if they dont want to.

If we truly live in a free world; one should wear what they want. I realize there are dress codes which we need to abide by but other than screw what others think. If a woman wants to dress like a man or a man wants to dress like a woman; why the hell would I care? Its none of my business and I think people need to keep their noses out of other people's lives. Too many control freaks out there already if you ask me.

I am the only guy at work who has been given a specific dress code. I believe this is more due to the fact that my boss is a woman, than there is actually anything wrong with my style.
