I have lived next to my neighbor for over ten years and she has always had a yard full of barking dogs.

She changes her significant other or husband more often than some of the dogs, and this latest one likes these black and white cattle dogs, of which now they have three, along with numerous other yapping little dogs. The the latest cattle dog really barks a lot. (constantly almost) Everytime I go in and out of my house.

I have never complained.

But last week I was walking my two dogs and someone began yelling at me from the house to put my dog on a leash. (she was on a leash, I just was not holding the other end of it.) When I would turn to confront this heckler, ... there was nothing but silence, he would hide. When I would turn to walk away the heckling would start up again.

It reminded me of his yapping dogs who will bark and bark but when you turn around to face them they run and hide. He was just like them.

His voice sounded just like a guy who just the week before was yelling a me to "get out of his alley" which was two blocks away from my house. This guy was with a smaller boy. They hassled me during the rest of my walk, always running away when I would turn to see who they were or talk back to them.

I believe in face to face confrontations. If you have something to say to me... come and say it to my face.

So later that day after he had yelled at me from the house next door, he was taking some trash out to the dumpster, which as neighbors, we share. I went over to confront him. He lied and said he had been yelling "at the kids."

So I knew it was him who had been yelling. He could not have been yelling at the kids because they don't even own any leashes for their dogs.

I told him that I have lived next door to this kennel for years and I have never complained, but that I don't appreciate being hassled when I am walking my dogs.

Anyway, we had words. (If the woman that he is living with there knew what he did she would probably rake him over the coals as we have always gotten along well.)

So I bought a device that will detect a barking dog that can be plugged in. It will emit a blast of a high pitch noise only dogs can hear when it detects a barking dog.

When it comes, I am going to plant it right next to the fence where that dog comes to bark at me. It has a remote control device too so I can turn it off and on at a distance.

Since I talked to the neighbor, his dogs have not been outside barking as much. His wife probably read him the riot act.

I can't wait to get my dog barking training device.

I also have a portable one for dogs that bark at me while I am walking by.

I have tried several other things with that dog, like giving him milk bones to try to make friends, or throwing water on him to shut him up etc. He is a great watch dog for barking but a bit excessive.

I hope the dog barking device I ordered works so good the neighbor wonders what is wrong with his dogs not barking any more. LOL

I've used a hand held one before, and it worked for larger dogs, but little tiny dogs seem to just keep barking at me.

As a former landscaper ...go cheap...a pocket full of off brand vanilla wafers will make friends of ANY dog....no barking...just lots of wagging and obedience.

As far as the douche neighbor...hold the dogs leash in one hand and a baseball bat in the other ...people are far less likely to talk crap when it is obvious that you are able to knock their teeth to the other side of their skull.

Have you ever seen a dog who barks at you only when he is safe on the other side of his fence and then runs and hides behind the house when you turn to scold him? This douche bag neighbor was is like that.

I will try the vanilla wafers, but with this dog, it probably won't work.

Sure, I will keep this thread up dated. It has been shipped and I should get it soon.

Maybe I will catch it on video.

Jeannie, just curious, when it comes to this new device producing some kind of something to discourage dogs from barking, what about your dogs, will it have the same affect on them too?

The only barking dog near to me comes out on rare occasion to take care of his business in his owners yard. He is a minature Doberman and his bark is bigger than he is. laugh

Yes but they are usually in the house and not out there barking constantly, and I can turn off the device via remote control.

My larger dog does not bark much.

I will only turn it on when I think it is necessary to shut them up.

I have smaller dogs who live in the house and don't spend much time in the yard, and one larger dog who is on a long 30 foot leash guarding the garage. He occasionally barks at passers by.

He sleeps in my art studio on the couch at night when its cold. He's a sweet heart.

in some cultures, dogs are a meal. You could remind your troublesome canines that they could be steaks. that might quiet them :) lol

Animals tend to pick up thoughts and attitudes of their masters. This may sound very strange, but that one dog that was doing most of the barking has been a lot more quiet these last few days since I talked to the owner.

It's as if he got the message via telepathy... as dogs do pick up on their owners vibes. Both the neighbor and the dogs have been a lot more quiet.

Just to let everyone know I have got this ultrasonic gizmo and it has worked on my dog who objected to people walking by his fence. Now all I have to do is hold it in my hand where he can see it and he looks sheepish.
It will not work if the beam is broken by anything.

Thanks, that's good to know. It may not effect my large dog who is usually on the other side of the garage. He can still bark at people passing by.

I got the equipment and the hand held device does not work at all on the ultra sonic sound setting. I am testing the other device now. It seems to be working - but does not seem to have the range that it claimed to have.

Will you be able to get your money back if it doesn't?

EDIT: Don't like spending money on non-working products.

Yes I think so, the hand held device even has a warranty.
