I want the libraries to un-burn Little Black Sambo and The Adventures of Huck Finn.

As far as the Quran. Burn them. Just make sure to wrap them around some radical extremists like Eugene or Shabitch. Soak them well in pig fat and diesel first.

Not Eugene. Best he dies a natural death. It would suck if he was made a martyr.

We're talking about books and flags here. Talk about killing people is uncalled for.

Who's talking about killing humans?

Is not Huck Finn a literary work of art? Likewise, Little Black Sambo. Both protected until some whiny group had them burned.

You think Shabitch is human? He wants to skin babies. Not even an animal wants that.
I am offended you would support his kind. You like the idea of seeing kids skinned alive?

No comment on the rest, Willing.

Too late.

The whiny groups already had them burned. They will never be available for the public again.

What other Literary works of art have special groups managed to have burned?

Do you view a Shabitch as human? Or, is he an animal for wanting what he wants?

Neither offends me; burning a book would typically be a greater waste of potential.

Both of these books can be found in good libraries. But, we don't really need libraries anymore because we have the internet.

The images look dated, but it was first published in the late 1800s. I don't see anything racist in the story. Just a boy bribing some tigers not to eat him. But,the name "Sambo" did become a racial slur.

They burn books because they find them dangerous or offensive. Same reason flags are burned really. Go on as much as you like about freedom of speach but I bet every poster in this thread could think of something that they would be quite happy to see burned.

Also, patriotism is the last resort to which a scoundrel clings and not everything done by or in the name of America goes down too well with some people. Hippies in the sixties protested over a stupid war and it was a time of change and revolt against the stuffy old conservatism that apparently still exists, as evidenced by this thread.

I have to disagree with one of your points. Burning a flag could be a statement about what the burner thinks the government is doing. "This is what they're doing to us!" kind of thing. It's like burning an effigy of a king.

This is why I think it should be covered by free speech.

Actually, banning is more offensive than burning. Burned books can be re-printed and placed where they were taken from.

Banned books don't have that option.

When you said the books would never be available to the public again, it sounded like you meant they were banned. Did you mean they were just banned in school libraries? Because obviously, they are still available to the public.

Call me Ishmael

e.e.cummings

XXX

i sing of Olaf glad and big
whose warmest heart recoiled at war:
a conscientious object-or

his wellbelovéd colonel(trig
westpointer most succinctly bred)
took erring Olaf soon in hand;
but--though an host of overjoyed
noncoms(first knocking on the head
him)do through icy waters roll
that helplessness which others stroke
with brushes recently employed
anent this muddy toiletbowl,
while kindred intellects evoke
allegiance per blunt instruments--
Olaf(being to all intents
a corpse and wanting any rag
upon what God unto him gave)
responds,without getting annoyed
"I will not kiss your ****ing flag"

straightway the silver bird looked grave
(departing hurriedly to shave)

but--though all kinds of officers
(a yearning nation's blueeyed pride)
their passive prey did kick and curse
until for wear their clarion
voices and boots were much the worse,
and egged the firstclassprivates on
his rectum wickedly to tease
by means of skilfully applied
bayonets roasted hot with heat--
Olaf(upon what were once knees)
does almost ceaselessly repeat
"there is some **** I will not eat"

our president,being of which
assertions duly notified
threw the yellowsonofabitch
into a dungeon,where he died

Christ(of His mercy infinite)
i pray to see;and Olaf,too

preponderatingly because
unless statistics lie he was
more brave than me:more blond than you.

Do schools even have libraries anymore? Sounds like an unnecessary expense to me. Every school kid should have internet access. It would solve so many problems. The teacher could simply email every student a link to whatever textbook is being studied.

Then we could burn all the books and use the heat to make electricity!
